8 Questions We Need Answered in GEN V Season 2

Gen V wrapped its first season in an ultraviolent, boisterously bloody bow. The inaugural spin-off for The Boys adopted its predecessor’s trademark frenzied, darkly comedic elements and penchant for social commentary while bringing more emotion and heart to the table. The explosive season finale blessed us with delightful cameos and a few loose narrative threads ripe for exploration in Season 2.

While we wait impatiently for that sophomore season, let’s dive into the eight burning questions we need answered in Gen V Season 2.

Where Are Marie, Jordan, Andre and Emma?

At the end of “Guardians of Godolkin,” we see Marie (Jaz Sinclair) wake in a pristine, brightly lit white room with no doors or windows. She boasts a hospital gown while lying in a hospital bed. Everyone wears gowns. Jordan (London Thor) smiles at her. Emma (Lizze Broadway) nonchalantly slurps a slushie. Andre (Chance Perdomo) gives Marie props for taking Homelander’s (Antony Starr) lasers like a champ. He also appears to hold his phone. Then, if you look at the ceiling, you’ll see a circular lock similar to what you’d find on a bank safe.

This begs the question: Where the flip are they? Could they be locked in a prison à la Maeve’s (Dominique McElligott) cell in The Boys Season 3? Or is this Cate’s (Maddie Phillips) mind prison? The latter would explain why Emma has a frozen treat and Andre his phone. Perhaps Cate persuaded Vought to make them as comfortable as possible. I love the idea of our heroes being trapped in Cate’s mind. We were already introduced to the complexities of her mental faculties in “Jumanji.”

What Did Butcher Find in The Woods?

In the final moments of Gen V‘s Season 1 finale, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) explores what’s left of The Woods. He bursts into one room with a flashlight in hand before saying, “What a bunch of c*nts” to the camera. What precisely did he find? We know Grace Mallory (Laila Robins) tipped Butcher off to The Woods after she met with the late Dean Indira Shetty (Shelley Conn). Grace also urged Butcher to keep an eye on Shetty.

Surely he knows about her death by now? He might even have an idea about who’s behind it, especially if he tailed Shetty to her home before Cate essentially murdered her.

Maybe Butcher discovered a victim of the virus and now knows that it’s already been used on a few unfortunate supes. What if he found something we have yet to see on Gen V

How Will Our Heroes Escape?

Remember that lock on the ceiling? It’s more than likely decorative, but it could hold the key to their escape. If they’re stuck in a mind prison of Cate’s devising, perhaps it takes an acknowledgment of that before working out how to break free. Maybe Sam (Asa Germann) or Cate will have a change of heart and assist them in escaping. I don’t believe either of them are genuine villains, anyway, despite what they’ve done. They’re traumatized kids. There’s another option, too: The Boys could be an asset to our heroes. What if a certain group of protagonists from another Eric Kripke series helps them flee?

Will Godolkin Continue To Be a School?

Of course, we know Godolkin University was a front for observing supes as a means to control them and that Shetty took it too far by enlisting Dr. Cardosa (Marco Pigossi) to create a virus that annihilates them. Will parents still send their supe kids there to get an education or improve their chances of joining The Seven? Vought and Homelander have already spun the Godolkin massacre in their favor, pinning the blame on our quartet for the bloodshed. This PR move could have effectively salvaged the institution’s reputation. I can picture it being business as usual at God U., with our protagonists hoping to dismantle it in the future.

What Will Victoria Do With the Virus?

If you recall, Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) took the virus from Cardosa before exploding his head to ensure his knowledge of it wouldn’t reach the masses. Could she weaponize it against Homelander? After all, his openly murdering someone in broad daylight could harm her political career. At the end of the day, Victoria Neuman works for her best interests (and her daughter’s), so regardless, the virus being in her hands is not a good thing.

Will Our Heroes Have to Fight Sam and Cate Again?

We know Sam and Cate will appear in The Boys Season 4, so their plot in that installment could significantly influence their trajectory in Gen V Season 2. I can envision Marie, Jordan, Andre and Emma squaring off against them for a big showdown. However, perhaps Cate and Sam will have an ally on their side — Homelander. Additionally, I can see Andre deteriorating more when utilizing his powers in battle (while boasting the Polarity suit, naturally).

Will Marie, Jordan, Andre and Emma Tell the World the Truth?

As mentioned above, our heroes will undoubtedly try to expose Godolkin University for the front it is. Whether we see them put The Woods on blast in Season 2 entirely depends on the writers and their vision for the series. I think it’s safe to say that’s a massive objective for them, though. It’ll be interesting to see the varying opinions on the virus. Some humans will be pro-virus (like Butcher), while others might see more shades of gray and nuance in the situation (like Hughie).

Could We See Our Heroes Team Up With The Boys?

We had a handful of fun cameos in the Gen V Season 1 finale, from Homelander and Butcher to Ashley (Colby Minifie), Adam (P.J. Byrne) and Cameron Coleman (Matthew Edison). (And who could forget Jensen Ackles‘ Soldier Boy in episode six?) Surely, Season 2 will bring a few more characters from The Boys into the fold. Could we see Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara), Frenchie (Tomer Capone) and Annie (Erin Moriarty)?

The Boys might team up with our heroes to raze Vought to the ground. However, the virus might be a sticking point. While the Gen V crew is pretty anti-virus, I can picture The Boys not being on the same page as far as that’s concerned. Regardless, I’d love for them to become an unstoppable team that puts the final nail in Vought’s coffin.
