Welcome back, supes! It’s penultimate episode time on Gen V, and sh*t has effectively hit the fan. This outing is undoubtedly the show’s strongest. We open with a handful of supes trapped in The Woods as Dr. Cardosa (Marco Pigossi) and Dean Shetty (Shelley Conn) observe them. One of the students has the highest concentration/most contagious version of the virus. Another supe bangs on the glass door, begging those on the other side to release them. Shetty asks Cardosa if he can tweak it again to make it airborne. The more contagious, the better. However, Cardosa questions Shetty’s motives. Vought wouldn’t like them making the virus too deadly now, would they? Shetty not-so-subtly reminds Cardosa that this is his virus. She could easily throw him under the bus to save herself.
Then, Cate (Maddie Phillips) calls Shetty, asking if they can meet at her house. Shetty tells Cate she has an appointment in the city, but Cate’s free to let herself in and get something to eat. Oh, and take those pills. Cate lies about taking her medication. We see her standing in a restaurant as the voices threaten to overtake her.

As Cate returns to her table where Andre (Chance Perdomo), Marie (Jaz Sinclair) and Jordan (London Thor) sit, we see a news segment about Vice Presidential candidate Victoria Neuman, whose running partner is Bobby Singer, arriving at Godolkin for a town hall with the students. That can only end well. (She said sarcastically.)

Next, Cate reveals she’ll wait at Shetty’s house. Then, she’ll make Shetty tell her everything. Suddenly, Marie, Jordan and Andre’s thoughts hit Cate like a Mack truck. They don’t trust her. Jordan turns into their male form (Derek Luh) and orders Cate to stay out of their heads. Jordan storms outside. Marie follows them. She scolds them for always transforming into their male self when they want to tell the group something. After a brief spat, Marie and Jordan share a sweet smooch. Marie tries to give Cate the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she can’t help reading their thoughts.
An idea strikes both Jordan and Marie — what if they deliver info about The Woods to a trusted source with a large platform? Like, say, Victoria Neuman? It’s worth a shot. Meanwhile, Emma (Lizze Broadway) packs Sam’s stuff to give to the resident pyrokinetic supe to burn. She orders Sam (Asa Germann) to stay in her dorm room until she returns with food. He’s fixated on Emma’s plethora of sex toys. Hey, you can never have too many options.

Later, Marie and Jordan find something shocking in Shetty’s office — a hidden folder featuring news clippings from the Transatlantic Flight 37 accident. They spot a passenger log, revealing Shetty’s husband and daughter perished on that flight. It hasn’t dawned on Marie and Jordan that Homelander was the one who let that plane go down.

Suddenly, Cardosa wanders into Shetty’s office. Marie and Jordan find a place to hide. An inebriated Cardosa urinates in Shetty’s liquor bottle before handing in his resignation. Ew. He doesn’t want to kill all supes like she does. Meanwhile, Shetty meets with none other than Grace Mallory (Laila Robins), where she pitches the contagious, airborne supe virus. She knows Grace is no fan of supes. What if this virus could wipe them off the face of this planet? Grace claims she won’t join Shetty. In fact, she might expose the God U. dean.
Then, Grace mentions Butcher without dropping his name, stating he has a similar mindset to Shetty. However, it consumed him. Shetty can walk away from this. But she won’t. After Shetty departs, Grace calls an unknown contact to ask if they heard that. She asks this person to keep an eye on Shetty. Hmm. Who could that be?

On campus, Sam decides to be naughty and leave Emma’s dorm. He sees students partying in the hallway as one supe creates an ice slide. Sam has a blast. Then, Rufus (Alexander Calvert) invites Sam to a shindig. He claims Emma will be there waiting for him. Oh, don’t do it, dude. Rufus is a dickwad. Side note: I love it when Sam finds Emma’s doll-sized panties for when she shrinks.

Meanwhile, Cameron Coleman (Matthew Edison) chats with Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas) about Victoria Neuman’s visit to Godolkin. Clearly, Cameron’s not a fan of Victoria. Andre and Cate watch the interview at Shetty’s house. During the conversation, Polarity loses control of his faculties and starts seizing. Unfortunately, during the seizure, Polarity’s powers are unchecked. We see metal objects flying all over the place. Andre makes a beeline for his dad’s location.
As Emma notices Sam is missing, Andre hops into the ambulance with his father. While en route, Polarity’s powers threaten to crush everyone in the ambulance as the walls cave in. Andre does his best to counteract his dad’s uncontrollable abilities. He tells the EMT that they need to wake up Polarity.

Later, Cameron steps in to host the town hall instead of Polarity. We see students lined up outside with signs, protesting their lil hearts out. Sam sits in the audience with Rufus. Most of the crowd vehemently boos Victoria (Claudia Doumit). We hear shouts of “Supe Lives Matter!” while Victoria explains that she does support supes and their rights. Everyone should be equal. Outside the town hall, Jordan stages a distraction so Marie can gain ingress undetected. Jordan punches Justine (Maia Jae Bastidas), dislocating the latter’s jaw. However, Justine heals instantly. Perhaps that’s her power.

Harper (Jessica Clement) films the outburst of violence as a group of students start fighting each other. It’s a mishmash of superpowers. Inside, Victoria addresses one student’s concerns about Homelander facing justice after killing a civilian in broad daylight. Victoria reassures said student that Homelander will be subject to a jury of his peers. That’s when things take a turn for the chaotic as the students stage a revolt against Victoria. It’s a mishmash of supe powers on display, y’all.
As Victoria is escorted backstage, Marie begs to chat with her. Victoria recognizes her and pulls her aside to the safety of the green room. Jordan, in their male form, reunites with Emma amid the melee of protesting students. They locate Sam, who excitedly tells Emma about his new friends and college adventures. He’s now besties with Rufus, which isn’t great.

Meanwhile, Shetty arrives to find Cate sitting in the dark. She doesn’t have her gloves on. Cate admits she stopped taking her pills because they made her numb. Next, she accuses Shetty of manipulating her. Shetty claims she only wants Cate to do one more thing for her. Then, it’ll all be over. Shetty emphatically states she doesn’t want to kill Cate, only all the other supes. They can leave this place together and start afresh. Cate realizes that Shetty’s telling the truth. They embrace.

In the green room, Victoria asks Marie to tell her something about herself. Marie senses the Compound V in Victoria’s blood. She’s a supe. Not only that, but Victoria has the same powers as Marie. She demonstrates this by slicing her hand. So, at some point, Marie will be capable of exploding heads. Victoria reveals she expedited the Godolkin application process for Marie to ensure she got accepted and out of Red River. That means Victoria is Marie’s benefactor.
They bond over their similar experiences growing up as orphans. After reminiscing about the good times at Red River, Victoria asks Marie what she wants to tell her. Marie discloses The Woods and all that entails. Victoria vows to take care of it. Then, she gives Marie a harsh reality check — Marie must keep her head down to get far in life. Who knows … she could wind up being the first Black woman to join The Seven. This seems vaguely manipulative.

Later, Andre sits with his father, who’s asleep in his hospital bed. He gets a text from Cate to meet her at Shetty’s. After the rest of the gang arrives at Shetty’s home, Cate makes Shetty divulge the truth—all of it. Shetty wants the virus to kill all supes. Why? Because Homelander killed her family. Marie insists they don’t all have malicious intentions. Shetty claims they can’t help it; it’s in their DNA. That’s when Cate orders Shetty to slice her own throat. Then, she demands that Marie not help her. Jordan and Emma futilely try to save Shetty but to no avail. She dies.

Marie turns to Cate, asking her if she knows what she’s done. Sam sees it as justice. Uh-oh. Cate believes they should slaughter anyone who doesn’t support supes. Well, Cate and Sam are coming from a place of trauma and abuse, so I can’t entirely fault them for this thinking.
Next, Cardosa meets with Victoria in a parking lot. He hands her the virus in a large metal canister. Victoria gives him a card containing information about his family’s witness protection hideout. She thanks him for being a true American, but not before confirming that he’s the only one with this knowledge. When Cardosa notices the card is blank, blood drips out of his nose. Then, his head explodes. Victoria flicks a bit of head goop off her hand before driving away. “Heads Will Roll” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs plays, and it’s the perfect needle drop.
