The Captain Marvel cast just got a little bigger. According to Deadline, we have some villain casting news from the film. According to the site, Gemma Chan has joined the cast in a fairly significant role – a Kree named Minn-Erva aka Doctor Minnerva. Not sounding familiar? Well let’s get you caught up.

Minn-Erva is a geneticist from the Kree Empire. In the comics, she originally came to Earth in order to mate with exiled Kree, Captain Mar-Vell, in order to use his genes to help progress the Kree genetic code. That plan obviously fell through. Not too much is known about her, other than her being an agent of the Empire along with her extensive knowledge in bio-genetics. Given that, we’re unsure if they will keep that origin or not. We don’t know much about the plot at this time but we do know that Brie Larson‘s Carol Danvers’ DNA will be mixed with the alien, giving her powers. So Minn-Erva may come to Earth attempting to find him.

Chan earns a place among Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, DeWanda Wise, and Ben Mendelsohn. Mendelsohn is currently believed to be taking on the main villain role, so Minn-Erva could be working for/with him. Let us know your theories in the comments!
