Happy Life Day! Here at Geek Girl Cantina we’ll be wrapping up the week in Star Wars news. Our main focus is on our favorite princess in the galaxy. Hope. Let’s get into it.
Carrie Fisher Suffers A Major Heart Attack
While on a plane back from London to LA, Carrie suffered a major heart attack. Witnesses say she wasn’t breathing for 10 minutes and EMT passengers helped administer CPR until they were able to rush her to the hospital. Not much is said and reports were getting mixed. But Carrie’s mother, Debbie Reynolds, tweeted out on Christmas Day that she’s in stable condition currently. You can see our coverage on it here and here. We’re wishing a speedy recovery and praying that the Force is with her.
The community has been bursting with support and sending love to her, of course. Co-stars have also been sending their love.
as if 2016 couldn't get any worse… sending all our love to @carrieffisher

UPDATE: Carrie's mother has confirmed Carrie is stable. So, for now let's let the doctors do their work and keep her in our hearts & minds.

May the Force Be With Her, Always.
ROGUE ONE Dominates Box Office
Last week at Rogue One‘s debut, it made $155 million domestic. This week it’s trajectory is to make $105 million for the holiday weekend, according to LA Times. The film has been deemed favorable among fans and critics, so we’re hoping for Rogue One‘s continued success. Have you seen it yet? You can see our own Claudia Dolph’s thoughts here!
John Williams Hasn’t Seen Any Star Wars Films!
Mirror UK interviewed our favorite composer recently and he had a surprising revelation. He hasn’t seen a Star Wars movie! At least not all the way through.
“I let it go. I have not looked at the Star Wars films and that’s absolutely true. When I’m finished with a film, I’ve been living with it, we’ve been dubbing it, recording to it, and so on. You walk out of the studio and, “Ah, it’s finished.”
He even confessed he doesn’t think his Star Wars scores are very memorable!
“A lot of them are not very memorable and so on. It’s probably the most popular music that I’ve done.”
I can understand that once you work on something so long you don’t want to look at it again, but it’s still sort of surprising to hear. What do you think of John’s admission?
A NEW HOPE in 4K
In an interview with Gareth Edwards, LittleWhiteLies got an almost exclusive from the director. While discussing Rogue One and going to Lucasfilm, he had the following to say.
“On day one, we were in Lucasfilm in San Francisco with Industrial Light and Magic and John Knoll, our supervisor, he said that they’ve got a brand new 4K restoration print of A New Hope – it had literally just been finished. He suggested we sit and watch it. Obviously, I was up for that.”
There is no other news regarding if this edition will see theaters again or be released for home viewing but it was an exciting tidbit!
Star Wars Show Holiday Special
In one of the most silly episodes to date, The Star Wars Show released their holiday special episode. You have to see it to experience it. By the way, none of it is canon.
Star Wars Celebration Hosts Announced
Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017 may not be till April but the announcements will be pouring in. The latest news is that the hosts have been announced. The main stage will have everyone’s favorite Warwick Davis! On the “digital stage” David Collins will be hosting and Amy Ratcliffe will be hosting the behind the scenes. Are you going to Celebration? Have you gotten your tickets yet?
ROGUE ONE Locations Featurette
A great but brief look into the countries Rogue One filmed in. Do you have a dream location you’d want to visit that Star Wars has been to? Or a place you think Star Wars should film?
Easter Eggs in ROGUE ONE
While I’m sure there are tons and ton, StarWarsNewsNet has created a brilliant list of easter eggs in Rogue One. The list is very heavy but very much worth the time! Some things to look out for in your next viewing. In addition, one of my favorite YouTubers, MrSundayMovies, collected some deleted scenes and rejected concepts which you can check out below. But be aware…spoilers!
RUMOR: Boba Fett Movie Back In The Works?
It appears that everyone’s favorite bounty hunter may be getting a solo film after all. Omega Underground spotted a post on a production website that said a Boba Fett origin film was in the works. There is no real ground in this being a confirmation of the production, but it’s interesting. The story is said to be the following:
An origin story of the galaxy’s most notorious bounty hunter. Boba Fett is a Mandalorian warrior who was trained by his father-figure Jango Fett and became a notorious bounty hunter throughout the galaxy.
Personally, I don’t want this. I think the Star Wars stories need to focus on newer stories and not be callbacks/origin films. I think maybe it could work as a bounty hunter film or Mando film but please not a Boba Fett movie. The Josh Trank film didn’t see the light of day so I’m hoping this is nothing but a rumor. What do you think of the possibility of having a Boba Fett movie?
Saw Gerrera Joins STAR WARS REBELS
In a feaurette, it’s revealed that Saw Gerrera will be joining Rebels, that connects the show to the latest film, Rogue One. In addition, they revealed that Forest Whitaker voiced the character in the show. Not yet needing oxygen, it looks like we’ll see Saw more fit to fight. Could we possibly see Jyn with him as well? We’ll know when the episode debuts on January 7th, 2017.
Billie Lourd To Have Bigger Role In Episode VIII
While speaking to Build promoting Scream Queens, Billie revealed that she will have a bigger role and more lines in the film then in her appearance in Episode 7. She also talked about what it’s like working with her mother, Carrie Fisher, on set.
Chewbacca’s Silent Night/ Star Wars Musical
To round up our news, we’ll try to end on a positive note. First, How It Should Have Ended on YouTube uploaded Chewbacca singing Silent Night and it’s wonderful. You can see our article on it here. The Gregory Brothers uploaded the Star Wars Musical a while ago, a MUST watch. Honestly, Tosche Station has been stuck in my head for weeks.
And that’s it in this week of Star Wars news. Anything we missed? Let us know and come back next week for more!
