Welcome to this week’s installment of Geek Girl Authority Crush of the Week. Every week, we will highlight an awesome female character from, or a creator of, geeky media.
Olivia “Liv” Moore
Fast Facts:
Olivia Moore (portrayed by Rose McIver) is the crime-solving undead coroner from Rob Thomas’ hit show iZombie. With the help of her friends and colleagues, Liv uses her undead powers to solve murders and her scientific prowess to try and cure the Zombie outbreak that has taken over Seattle.
The Real Deal:
Liv Moore had the perfect life – great job as a doctor, smokin’ hot fiancé, supportive family and friends – until she died at a boat party. Then the hard part of life started. Instead of letting her newfound zombieism get her down, Liv decided to lay low and transfer to the morgue so she would have access to afterlife-sustaining brains. While working in the morgue she discovered that eating someone’s brains gave her their personality traits and some of their memories – a fact that she uses to help the police solve murders.
Why Does She Matter:
Liv matters A TON for a few reasons. The first is that she teaches us empathy. Through Liv’s eyes we share the experience of walking a mile in another person’s shoes. Some of the people are admirable and others are less so, but each person’s personality and memories teach Liv something. There is a lot that audiences can learn from Liv’s attitude as well. Instead of feeling defeated when life didn’t go her way, Liv used her seeming misfortune to help deliver justice to people. Liv Moore is a great example of the age-old adage “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade”. Finally, Liv teaches us creativity is key: eating brains looks almost fun with all of her cool recipes.
