Welcome to this week’s installment of Geek Girl Authority Crush of the Week. Here, we shine a spotlight on our favorite ladies in genre culture who inspire us. Our crushes range from fictional female characters in our favorite genre shows, movies and books…to women behind the scenes in geeky media.

DISCLAIMER: The following contains spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead, up to the current season. If you are not caught up with the show, then you may not want to read on, but if you don’t care about spoilers either way, then continue!

Alicia Clark

Fast Facts:

It’s the end of the world and the dead are walking. Everyone you know and love is deceased. It’s enough to make someone give up on life. Not Alicia Clark (played by Alycia Debnam-Carey).  Alicia has been through a lot and yet, she is able to hold on to her moral compass.

Alicia is the daughter of Madison (Kim Dickens) and sister to Nick (Frank Dillane). The Clark family became a force to be reckoned with in the zombie apocalypse. Along with their companion, Victor Strand (Colman Domingo), the foursome went in search of a safe place to stay. Despite losing at times to the dead and living, they always come through unscathed and smarter than before. Through it all Alicia has done her best to keep her humanity in tact, but everyone has a breaking point.

Their latest battle against the Vultures almost broke Alicia. The Vultures burned down their home, killing her mother Madison in the process. That was enough for Alicia and Nick to seek revenge on the Vultures. Their vengeance led to Nick’s death, leaving Alicia as the only remaining member of the Clark family.

The Real Deal:

Before the end of the world, Alicia was your average teenage girl with big plans for her future. Alicia is smart, resourceful, and intuitive. Madison had nothing to worry about with Alicia. Nick called her perfect for being opposite of him. Nick’s drug addition took up a lot of Madison’s attention. Although Alicia was self-sufficient and on the right track, she often resented Nick for being so careless.

Alicia was thrown for a loop when the world ended. Even though she could see that things were bad, she always had hope that everything would turn back to normal. When she finally accepted that her life would never be the same, she didn’t completely fall apart. Instead, she turned her anger and frustration into motivation for finding some kind of normalcy. And despite finding danger around every corner, Alicia keeps her faith that deep down, people are still good at heart.

Why She Matters:

Fear the Walking Dead

Alicia Clark has evolved from a naive, self centered teenager, to a BAMF woman who has survived just about everything life can throw at you. She watched her mother spiral as the world fell apart and witnessed her as she found peace. I’d like to think that Madison learned her peaceful ways from her daughter, Alicia.

After losing her family, Alicia could have easily trekked down a dark path. She recognized her apathy and tried to go out on her own. If we’ve learned anything about the The Walking Dead universe, it’s that you need people. It’s not always about just surviving, it’s about having something or someone to live for. Alicia has become the center of the Fear TWD world. She is in charge of her own fate and those around her look to her for leadership and motivation. Alicia Clark is the hope of Fear the Walking Dead
