Gamescom 2020 has joined the long list of conventions to have been postponed or canceled in the wake of the novel COVID-19 pandemic. They took to the official Twitter to share the news today that they too would be canceling their upcoming convention. The German government recently announced that they were extending the ban on large gatherings through the end of August.
Gamescom 2020 was set to take place from Tuesday August 25, 2020 to Saturday August 29. 2020. It was inevitable that they would need to either postpone or cancel. In their Twitter post they shared that under no circumstances will the event go on and they are just as disappointed as the rest of us. The Gamescom team reminds us that we need to be considerate of the people around us and we must all work together.
But this isn’t where Gamescom 2020 ends. The team has been working full speed to bring the convention to us digitally. While they are not ready to reveal exactly what will be happening, they promise to keep us updated when they are ready. They also noted that anyone who has already purchased a ticket for Gamescom that they will be getting a full refund.
Gamescom isn’t the first convention to take things digital. Wizard World has been hosting panels and giving fans the best virtual experience they can create. We expect to see more conventions following in their footsteps over the next couple of months. Even with everything going on, it is great to see that thanks to our technology today we will still be able to experience these conventions from the safety of our own homes.
Continue to check back in with us for upcoming convention cancelations and delays.
