Blizzard Entertainment shared a new blue post today surrounding the upcoming Gamescom 2020 virtual event. During the Opening Night Live Stream they will be premiering the first of four animated shorts surrounding the upcoming World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. The event itself kicks off on August 27 at 11:00 a.m. PDT/2:00 p.m. EDT, but there is no specific time for the reveal. Along with the announcement they shared a teaser of what to expect from the upcoming animated shorts titled Shadowlands Afterlives.

The teaser shows us that the shorts will focus on the four covenants that rule over the Shadowlands. The four covenants, Ardenweald, Bastion, Ravendreth and Maldraxxus, play a major role in the upcoming expansion. Players will need to link their souls to one of the covenants. This provides power to both the player as well as restoring anima to the covenants area. In the teaser, it appears that we are going to be seeing the rise and possible fall of the covenants. It also looks that we are going to get an Uther related story story as well.

Personally, I love the animated shorts Blizzard Entertainment has continued to share with us. The Warbringers series prior to World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth was masterfully done, and these look to be following in their footsteps. What makes this new set even better is that it looks to be focusing on more than one character. The Shadowlands Afterlives teaser shows a new lore character connected to each covenant along with a quite a few fan favorites as well.

Along with the first Shadowlands Afterlives animated short, we are hoping to get more announcements. With beta in full swing and pre-patch available on the public test realm, it is safe to say we should be hearing news of a release date quite soon. And what better place than Gamescom 2020? World of Warcraft is playable now on PC through Blizzard.
