Holy dragon fire!!! Game of Thrones season 7 episode 5 went so fast, and was so packed with excitement, I’m still reeling!  And, we have a preview for episode 6 that does not bode well for our rag tag group of raiders beyond the wall.

The preview for episode 6 starts with the ultimate truth.  ‘Death is the enemy’.  It’s becoming the only enemy, indeed.  When Daenerys and Cersei are both willing to join together, whatever their motives… we know winter is coming to them, and judging from the pace of these episodes, it’s coming fast.

We see the raiding party, then Daenerys and Tyrion presumably waiting… maybe for Cersei.  Then the pace picks up.  We see the men beyond the wall circling and raising their swords in the snow.  Death is coming.  Then, there’s a sudden cut to Winterfell.

What’s happening at Winterfell is fascinating.  Arya has found the scroll that Sansa sent on a Raven in season one, at the insistence of Cersei under threat that Sansa would be treated like a traitor like her father.  This is what it said:

“Robb, I write to you with a heavy heart. Our good king Robert is dead, killed from wounds he took in a boar hunt. Father has been charged with treason. He conspired with Robert’s brothers against my beloved Joffrey and tried to steal his throne. The Lannisters are treating me very well and provide me with every comfort. I beg you: come to King’s Landing, swear fealty to King Joffrey and prevent any strife between the great houses of Lannister and Stark.”

Season 1 Sansa was a different Sansa than the one we see today. But, Arya doesn’t know that.  The way she talked to her sister in episode 5 made that very clear.  And, Littlefinger planted that scroll to pit the sisters against each other.  Is it possible that he can outsmart Arya at this point in the game?  Arya says ‘What are you scared of?’, and we might assume that Sansa is afraid of her little sister herself.  We all know that Arya is not stable, and VERY loyal to Jon.

After Winterfell, true terror comes.  We see Jon and Tormund running for their lives.  There’s no way all of those men survive their raid beyond the wall.  If they’re able to fulfill their mission and bring a wight back to convince the queens to fight winter instead of each other, they’ll be only a few.

My prediction is that the men with claims to the throne will survive.  Jon and Gendry will make it back.  They’re viable for the iron throne and they are both fierce fighters.  The Hound is hard to kill.  I’d give him a fighting chance.  I really really don’t want to say goodbye to Davos or Tormund, but I have to assume at least one of them will fall.  Jorah is dead.  They spent too much time on his departure for him to ever see Dany again.  When he looked back at her as they entered the water, that was it.  My opinion.  As for the Lord of Light’s men… who knows if they can rely on their god beyond the wall.  For the night is dark and full of terrors.
