GAME OF THRONES Targaryen Prequel Series in the Works

George R. R. Martin is working on another Game of Thrones prequel series about the Dragonlords of House Targaryen.  Martin will executive produce with Ryan Condal.

The Targaryen prequel will take place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, aka A Song of Fire and Ice. According to Deadline, the project will be based on the Fire & Blood book.  Martin wrote in a blog that there have been “five different GoT successor shows in development at HBO,” and says three shows are moving forward.

This is not to be confused with the other GoT prequel starring Naomi Watts that is now in post-production.  That story is set much earlier than House Targaryen and chronicles Westeros’ descent from “the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.”

Fire & Blood are the house words of House Targaryen. The book is a companion series to A Song of Fire and Ice and is basically a history of the Targaryens upon their arrival at Dragonstone. Some of these stories may have been mentioned in the GoT series.

HBO is not commenting on the series, but it sounds like it’s a done deal.  It will be interesting to see how the Targaryens conquered Westeros to become one of the great ruling families. I hope it lasts long enough to see the Mad King and descent into madness.  Or even the true story about Jon’s parents.

Again, the prequel is in the works and there are no definite details about a title, release date or cast.  Check back with Geek Girl Authority for the latest on all Game of Thrones news.
