Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhaaahahhahhahh!! Okay. Sorry. I need to settle down. But, the Game of Thrones trailer for the eighth and final season is finally here and I cannot contain myself!! There are some big clues and reveals in this trailer. Let’s get to it.
The trailer begins with Arya (Maisie Williams) running through the halls of Winterfell. Something is chasing her. We assume it’s walkers… but who knows at this point. Arya is talking about knowing the faces of death and getting to know this new one: the wights. We see flashes of people hiding (including Varys (Conleth Hill)), and oh… no big deal… Thurmond (Kristofer Hivju), Ed (Ben Crompton) and Beric (Richard Dormer) are just strolling through a hallway totally alive and unhurt by a giant falling ice wall! That’s the good news.
The Golden Company is crossing the Narrow Sea on Euron’s (Pilou Asbæk) ships. They’re on their way to King’s Landing, we assume. Sam (John Bradley) and the three-eyed raven (Isaac Hempstead) are together for team knowledge. Jon (Kit Harington), Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), the Unsullied and the Dragons arrive at Winterfell. Awesome.
Oh, you want more good news? Gendry (Joe Dempsie) is back! He’s in a forge and there’s clearly a pile of dragon glass there. He’s making an arsenal for the great war to come. Yes!!! Jorah (Iain Glen) is in top form. Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) and Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) are putting their love right out in the open. Good. Jon and Daenerys take a moment in the crypts. Obligatory.
Cersei (Lena Headey) is alone. She looks, somehow, more alone than ever. Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) affirms that he’s fighting for the living, and that means that he fights away from and maybe against his sister. There’s a fiery battle. Jaime is there. The Hound (Rory McCann) is there. It looks like that could be Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) behind Jaime as he roars. Jon and Daenerys walk toward happy dragons in the snow, surrounded by bones. Jon’s going to ride Rhaegal, you guys!!!
Then, an army of Unsullied in the dark. Brienne and Pod (Daniel Portman) lead them. The war has come to Winterfell. Undead horse hooves in the snow.
There is no footage of the Night King, or any of the wights themselves. No Davos, which seems odd. And, no Melisandre (Carice Van Houten). There is not a single shot of Ghost. Come on!! Give me Ghost!!! I wouldn’t mind a little Nymeria either. Just saying, it’s the final season.
