TABOO Trailers Reveal a Twisted Drama from Tom Hardy

BBC One released a new trailer for their mini-series, Taboo this week, and I’m intrigued.  Well, let’s be honest, I’ve been waiting for this one for awhile.

Tom Hardy, who stars, created the gritty period drama with his father, Edward ‘Chips’ Hardy.  If that’s not interesting enough for you, it’s co-written by Steven Knight who wrote one of my favorite series of all time Peaky Blinders.  YES!!  You heard me right!  Tom Hardy and Steven Knight are together again.  AND…. Ridley Scott executive produced. Dream. Team.

I’m a fan of historical fiction.  I’m a fan of gritty, non-glamourous tellings of times gone-by, and I’m a fan of good acting.  This is my jam.  So, if you’re into shows like Peaky Blinders or The Knick (and you should be) you’ll be getting excited too.

The trailer BBC one posted this week is slanted toward thriller/horror, which is interesting.  It’s definitely creepier than the FX trailer that came out earlier this year.   You can see both below.

Here’s what FX says about the series.  Gird your loins.  This one’s going to be brutal.

Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney, a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed long dead, he returns to London from Africa in 1814 to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire. But when this legacy is revealed to be a poisoned chalice, with enemies in every dark corner, James must navigate complex territories to avoid his own death sentence.  – FX

Taboo premieres January 10, 2017.
