As the episode opens, Michael (Landon Liboiron) kneels on the ground, his arms tied behind him. Scottish men hover near-by. However, Michael makes eye contact with Declan Harp (Jason Momoa), who watches silently from near-by bushes. Harp stealthily steps out into the open as the men nervously clutch their guns. Declan smirks, “Those are pretty hats, if you release him, I might let you keep yours”. Suddenly, arrows sweep in, killing the men around them. Michael quickly pounces on the distraction to free himself.
Soon, Declan interrogates MacLaughlin (Graham Abbey). Does he work for Malcom Brown (Michael Patric)? When MacLaughlin isn’t receptive to questions, Declan slices off a piece of his ear before walking off.
Later, Harp’s team huddles together, discussing the growing political tension in the area. Thanks to the actions of the Brown brothers, there’s a war brewing with the Lake Walkers. However, Declan believes that everyone’s common enemy is the Hudson’s Bay Company. If they have any hope of taking down Benton (Alun Armstrong) and the HBC, they must work together.
Meanwhile, Lord Benton pays Grace Emerbly (Zoe Boyle) a strategically timed visit. He demands to learn why he wasn’t notified of the Lake Walker boy in her care. However, Grace doesn’t blink. She tells him that she didn’t want to bring Benton any trouble, especially given his new responsibilities. As Benton leaves, he takes a parting shot at Emberly, ordering all her French brandy removed. It turns out, the product is illegal.
Later, Harp brings MacLaughlin back to the Brown camp. As the two men talk, it turns out the Brown’s weren’t aware of everything their chief henchmen was doing. After all, they needed the trade. Why would they alienate the Lake Walkers? However, the conversation stops as the Lake Walkers suddenly ambush the camp. In the chaos, MacLaughlin escapes with Michael and Sokanon (Jessica Matten) on his trail.
At the same time, Douglas Brown (Allan Hawco) is pulled out of his Montreal office at gunpoint. He is brought to their financier Mr. Grant (Shawn Doyle), who demands favors from the Browns. He desires to meet with Mr. Peter Carruthers (Peter O’Meara), and forces Douglas bring the man in for a meeting.
Meanwhile, things are awkward between Grace and Captain Chesterfield (Evan Jonigkeit). It seems his definition of the word partnership is slightly different than her’s. As she straightens him out, he takes offense.
Douglas Brown has made good on his promise, and sits quietly while Mr. Grant talks with Mr. Carruthers about the fur trade. However, as there’s a pause in the conversation, Carruthers turns to Brown, “Does this man ever… shut up?”. With that, Carruthers leaves. Brown turns back to Grant, a panicked look crossing his face. Grant stares at him for a beat, “Out!”.
Later, as Michael and Sokanon trail MacLaughlin through the wilderness, she opens up to the boy about who Declan Harp truly is. In fact, Harp had a wife and son. However, he was permanently scarred when the two greatest loves of his life were murdered by Benton’s men.
Inside, Captain Chesterfield waits for MacLaughlin, who slowly enters. The young soldier is not amused at the man’s failures. In fact, MacLaughlin hasn’t managed complete anything he should have. Despite all this, Chesterfield still pays him the money he promised. As the two men leave, Chesterfield suddenly kills MacLaughlin (and takes his money back) as Michael watches from his near-by hiding place.
They bring the news back to Harp, who readies a team to go into the Lake Walker village. Though nervous, he’s bringing the Brown clan in unarmed. This is absolutely imperative if they aim to make peace.
At the same time, Douglas Brown works quietly in his office as Peter Carruthers enters. It turns out, he received a note from Douglas saying he wanted to see him. However, there’s one problem. Douglas didn’t write the note. Suddenly, Grant’s assistant moves into the office. There’s a brief exchange and Carruther’s is killed.
Meanwhile, the peace offering is going as planned with Kamena (Tantoo Cardinal). However, a sudden struggle breaks out as one of the tribe members holds a knife to Brown’s throat. He’s not ready for a peace offering. Anxious to end the confrontation, Kamena steps back, bargaining with her kin instead. Harp looks disappointed as she vows to give the member of the tribe her position if he relents.
As the credits roll, everything is seemingly in flux.
