Attention fans of Friday the 13th! Bryan Fuller and A24 are bringing us a new prequel series, Crystal Lake. This is a straight-to-series show that will air on the streaming service Peacock. An air date is not currently available.

As a quick refresher, in the original film, Jason’s mother (Betsy Palmer) went on a killing spree after she thought her son perished from drowning. While attending a summer camp in 1959, a severely disfigured child, Jason, is the target of bullying from camp counselors. After his alleged death, Jason’s mother murders two counselors, causing the camp to shut down. Then, 20 years later, a new group tries to reopen the camp. This attempt led Mrs. Voorhees to slay the new counselors.

Other than the insight that Crystal Lake is a prequel to the original film, little information is available about the plot. Victor Miller, the original movie’s screenwriter, and his copyright attorney, Marc Toberoff, will act as executive producers alongside Friday the 13th producer Rob Barsamian.

Bryan Fuller is set to act as writer, director and executive producer. According to a report from Deadline, Fuller has been working on a Friday the 13th project since 2013. The report also states that the project was originally intended to be a feature film.

Fun fact: A series called Friday the 13th: The Series aired for three seasons between 1987 and 1990. Despite the title, the series held no connection to Camp Crystal Lake or Jason Voorhees.

What do you think about this project? Do you think it will be about Jason’s childhood or the camp’s origins? Maybe Mrs. Voorhees’ early life? Only time will tell. Let us know what you think in the comments!
