Here we are everyone, the season finale of Frequency. We’ve been quite the journey with Team Sullivan and we’ve learned a valuable life lessons. When given a chance to change your timeline, remember how much things can change for better or worse. Last week, Raimy and Frank caught the Nightingale Killer (again) and this time they did it right. Julie is now alive in Raimy’s present and things are back to normal. But like all things, making changes to one’s past or one’s present can inadvertently affect other things.

How did Season 1 end? SPOILERS below!

Frequency S01E13a

Picking up after the happy reunion between mother and daughter in last week’s episode, Gordo pays them a visit and he has only one thing to talk about: Raimy and Daniel’s engagement party. Raimy is still reeling from seeing her mother alive, but finding out that Gordo is a lawyer is just one more thing to add to the surprise soup.

On the ham radio, Raimy tells Frank the good news about Julie and her engagement. With the capture of the Nightingale Killer in 1996, there have been no murders since. Everything is now smooth sailing for Raimy. Frank is overjoyed at the news. “That means we won,” he says tearfully. I can’t help but feel happy for him. Now Frank can take some time off and focus on Julie and Young Raimy.

At the precinct Raimy decides to look through the old Nightingale Killer case files. Satch comes by to ask a question about the engagement party. Not only is he is a good mood, but he’s still with his wife Leah. How great is this new timeline?

Frequency S01E13b

This timeline isn’t so great for everyone, however. Deacon Joe is still in jail and his young son Robbie (Patrick Stafford) has paid him a visit. With Robbie there, Joe reveals that he took the fall for what Robbie did because he wants Robbie to go out into the world and start over. Robbie is a little unsure, “I don’t know if I can stop. These women, they call out to me.” On top of “saving” these women, Robbie also enjoys taking mementos from them and giving them to his dad. Proud papa is proud.

Frank and Satch are walking down the street when Satch receives a call. Deacon Joe will provide them with a signed confession and will also include the location of the bodies he hid. Frank leaves the digging to Satch because he needs to take his family out to a cabin for some well-deserved family time.

Speaking of family, we finally get a look into Stan Moreno’s private life. At his home, he’s preparing a lunch for himself while his elderly father (Luis Javier) sits at the dinner table. Stan tells his father to get outside and to eat the meals that his caregiver makes for him. His father is concerned about how much she costs, but Stan isn’t worried, he has a good paying job. But his father sees his son for what he is: a dirty cop.

Older, new timeline Robbie (David Lipper) returns home to find his son at the table, nursing a bruise on his face. The kids at his school have found out the family’s dirty little Deacon Joe secret and have made his grandson pay for his transgressions.

In the bathroom, Older Robbie begins praying fervently while in his head he hears the screams of the women he’s hurt. That cannot be good.

Outside the hospital Raimy gives her mother call, and as she walking she passes by a very familiar red truck. What could that truck possibly be doing there?

Up at the cabin, Frank and family are excited to spend some time in peace and quiet without fear of the Nightingale Killer. This is where the healing can begin.

At the precinct Raimy does a quick search of the red truck’s license plate and gets a name: Doris Perkins. Yes, it’s the same Doris Perkins from the alternate timeline. She runs the name by Satch, but he’s never heard of her name before. Raimy thinks it’s connected somehow to the old Nightingale case, but she’s not sure how just yet.

Back at the cabin, Frank receives a call from Miracella (Alyssa Diaz). She wants to smooth things out with him before things get “any crazier.” Frank wants to know how that might happen, but Miracella dodges the question. She tells Frank that he doesn’t have to worry about her anymore and that she’s happy for him. The call has a certainly finality to it.

Raimy pays a visit to the address on record for Doris Perkins. Knocking on the door she is surprised to see Robbie answer it.

Frequency S01E13d

Robbie remembers her dad and the time he went to her house when he was younger. He confirms that the truck is his, but it’s registered to his mother-in-law. Raimy lies and tells him that she’s looking into a hit-and-run.  As part of her investigation she asks him for a rundown of where he was that day and he tells her that he was at the hospital visiting his sister Meghan (Beth Lacke). As Raimy leaves, you can tell that she feels there’s something fishy going on. Robbie looks completely panicked.

At the cabin Satch and family show up with some food and the party begins. Alone Satch and Frank patch up the small rift that happened between them. It’s time for them to put things behind them and move on.

Raimy and Frank reminisce about the good times at the cabin, but Raimy has something on her mind. She tells Frank about her meeting with Robbie and her concerns. Since they never killed Deacon Joe, they never “cut off the trunk” and she’s worried that maybe the “branches are growing back.” Raimy thinks it’s fate that she would see the red truck in one timeline, and then see it again in her new timeline. Robbie always seems to be there. She thinks that something is amiss and that Frank needs to see Robbie and Meghan again. Frank agrees but he has one request for Raimy: be happy. She has her mom back and her fiancé, and Frank can take it from here.

At the house, Daniel is waiting for Raimy and he has something he needs to talk to her about. He wants to know who she’s been talking to on the ham radio. Raimy can’t tell him the truth, so the only thing she can ask him to do is trust her.

Frequency S01E13e

Frank meets with Young Megan (Britt McKillip) and Robbie about the upcoming trial. He warns them that the trial will get personal and invasive, but Meghan is prepared.   Robbie, however, will receive the brunt of the questions and will need to relive the day his mother was murdered. Frank needs to be reassured that there will be no surprises at the trail that could possibility jeopardize it.

At the hospital Older Robbie visits a very sick Meghan. Julie comes in and introduces herself as Meghan’s new doctor. In speaking with Deacon Joe, Robbie sees Julie’s appearance as a sign that he has to start up his work again. Couple that with Raimy showing up at his doorstep and he’s about to lose what little control he has. Joe reminds him about the consequences and how they could affect his family. “I died for you. And you’re telling me that it’s too hard to be free?” Deacon Joe asks him. Yeah, it kind of sounds like that’s exactly what Robbie is saying.

Frank is hanging out at a bar trying to have a relaxing night if beer and football. His peaceful time is interrupted when Stan shows up. Taking a seat next to him, Stan is clearly inebriated and feeling just a bit down. Taking out an envelope with Frank’s name on it, he sets it on the bar. Frank quickly takes it and stuffs it into his jacket. Stan then tells him that he knows about Deacon Joe being in the trunk of his car and that Julie’s cousin gave him a loner while his car was in the shop.  Frank is concerned that Stan might mess up his case, but Stan has no intention of doing that. Stan understands why Frank did it.

Raimy is back on the radio and she tells Frank about her conversation with Daniel. Frank agrees that she did the right thing and that telling Daniel might change things again. Frank tells her about his meeting with Meghan and Robbie, and he’s convinced that everything is ok. Raimy is still worried, but Frank suggests that maybe they should back off from the case. He also alludes to maybe taking a break from the radio for a time. Raimy is not on board with the idea. She does bring up the fact that Frank is still dead in this new timeline. Raimy believes that they can save his life again, but Frank isn’t ready to talk about that just yet.  Right now he’s happy that they have everything they want.

Young Robbie is having doubts about going to court and speaking about his father. Meghan tries to convince him that they have to do it but Robbie isn’t listening. He insists that his father isn’t a monster, and that he isn’t a monster. Those women needed to be saved. OH NO! Girl, you in danger.

Frequency S01E13g

This is where everything goes horribly wrong and we start to bounce between the present and the past.

Julie has had a particular rotten day at work because she had to tell Meghan and her brother the bad news about Meghan’s cancer. In the past Young Robbie explains to Meghan that he understood why his mother had to die. He then confesses to the murder of Larissa Abbott because she cheated on him, just like his mother cheated on his father. In the present, Julie tells Raimy about Meghan and Raimy cannot believe that Meghan is her patient. In the past Robbie tries to convince Meghan that he saved those women. Meghan ties to get away from Robbie, but he grabs her and throws her into the wall, killing her. Raimy can’t believe that Meghan would be a coincidence, but of course, Julie has no idea who she’s talking about. Raimy immediately knows that something has happened. She rushes to the radio and tries to reach Frank but he’s not available.

Frank is inside his home having dinner with his family. He receives a call from Robbie who tells him that something has gone really bad. As Frank leaves the house he reminds Raimy to return the spare key. A key that she didn’t take. AAAAH!

Frequency S01E13h

At the precinct Raimy looks up information about Meghan and she finds out that Meghan was murdered by her brother who is still at large.

Once he arrives at Robbie’s apartment, Frank finds Meghan’s body, positioned the same way as all the other women.

In Satch’s office, Satch reminds Raimy that Meghan was Robbie’s last victim. Raimy still believes that Deacon Joe is the Nightingale Killer, but Satch tells her that Deacon Joe tried to take the rap for his son did but in the end he was only jailed for the murder of his wife. Despite his inactivity for the last 20 years, Raimy refuses to believe that Robbie is done. She knows exactly where he’s going to next.

Frequency S01E13i

And so does Frank. Running to his car, he calls up Stan and tells him that Deacon Joe is not the Nightingale Killer but Robbie is. Frank knows that Robbie is going to go after Julie and he needs Stan’s help.  With units on their way, Stan grabs his gun and heads out to help Julie. When he gets to his car he is shot from behind by Miracella.  Stan fires back but Miracella makes her escape, leaving Stan bleeding by his car.

Frequency S01E13j

Julie is at home, but she doesn’t know that Robbie is now in the house with her. He sees her in the kitchen and quietly watches her.

At Raimy’s house, she shows up to her engagement party but she needs to find her mother. Once she sees Julie, she makes her mom promise that she won’t go to the hospital that night. Julie is confused but she promises anyway.

Out in the garage, Julie brings Young Raimy (Ada Breker) and Young Gordo (Ty Consiglio) their dinner. Robbie enters the garage and Julie asks how she can help him. Robbie knows he can’t be helped so he draws a gun on Julie and says that he can help her. Over the radio, Raimy hears everything that’s going on. She calls out to Robbie and tells him who he is and what she knows. Gordo Sr. (Chris McKenna) walks in and Robbie pulls the trigger, killing him quickly. Raimy panics, thinking that Robbie killed her mother, but hearing her mother voice, Raimy continues to tell Robbie everything even after Julie surrenders to him. “I will not save you, I will not give you a good death,” Raimy tells him.

Frequency S01E13k

At this point Robbie has had enough of Raimy and he pushes the radio off the table, breaking it. As it breaks in the past, Raimy’s radio burns out in the present.

Frank races home to find Robbie dragging Julie out of the house. He tries to stop Robbie but Robbie shoots him in the side. Julie screams for Frank to help her..

A distraught Raimy walks out of the garage and sees that all the lights in her house are off. She rushes in to see what’s happened.

Robbie makes his getaway with Julie in the back, but he doesn’t get far as Satch comes and rams his car into the truck. Frank rushes into the truck and embraces Julie, but Robbie escapes.

In the dark house, Raimy believes that she has lost everything again, but she is wrong. All their engagements party guests are in the living room watching a video of Raimy and Daniel.

The police units come and Satch tells them that Robbie has escaped. Franks holds on to Julie and Young Raimy.

Raimy is relieved to see that her mother is still alive as she goes to sit with her, Gordo, and Daniel. Everything is back to how it should be.

Or is it?

Frequency S01E13l

From across the street, a hooded Robbie watches the house. This isn’t over.

Frequent Thoughts

  • Really? You’re going to make me like Stan in the end. Gosh darn it.
  • I get that Raimy can’t tell Daniel about the ham radio, but at the same time, I don’t get it. I would think that telling him the truth would be a good thing. It’s nice to have a confidant in matters such as these. No?
  • What was in that envelope that Stan gave Frank? Was it the Miracella pictures? He has it with him when they found Deacon Joe’s wife’s body, but Stan put it in his glove box. What could it be?
  • Now that the radio is broken, will it be fixed? Right now we don’t know if there’s a Season 2, but the loss of the radio almost makes it unlikely.
  • I’m not sure if I was happy to see Lawyer Gordo. He looked miserable.
  • At some point in the future, will Julie realize that she heard Raimy’s voice on the ham radio in 1996?
  • I miss you Kyle. #TeamKyle forever.
  • This show started off pretty slow but when it picked up it picked up. There were so many twists and turns that I was constantly waiting for something else to go wrong and it usually did. Peyton List and Riley Smith were great. Actually everyone on this show is great . Would have been nice if they kept that rocking 90’s soundtrack though.
  • THIS SHOW AMIRITE? While a 2nd season would be great, I’m pretty content with how this season (and maybe show) ended. There are still some lose ends with Robbie still being alive and Frank’s impending death that I think keeps the light on for a Season 2. We’ll see.
