The HBO Max pilot DMZ has been super busy on the casting front. The Rosario Dawson led series recently added Benjamin Bratt .Today we learned that Freddy Miyares (When They See Us) has been cast as Skel. Ava DuVernay is set to direct the pilot with Roberto Patino serving as showrunner.
The pilot is based on DC’s Vertigo comic DMZ created by Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli. DMZ takes place in the near future where America is embroiled in a bitter civil war, leaving Manhattan a demilitarized zone (DMZ – hence the title of the series), destroyed and isolated from the rest of the world.

Dawson will play fierce medic Alma Ortego, who goes on a harrowing journey of saving lives while desperately searching for her lost son. As she contends with the gangs, militias, demagogues and warlords that control this lawless no man’s land, she becomes the unlikely source of what everyone here has lost…hope.
According to Deadline, Miyare’s character Skel is the ruthless triggerman of one of the DMZ’s most powerful gangs, led by Parco Delgado (Bratt). He is also a talented graffiti artist with a profound passion for art, which serves as his lasting connection to his humanity in a world where survival is predicated on power.
Currently DMZ has only been picked up for a pilot. There’s no news of any series pick-up. Stay tuned to Geek Girl Authority for more news on DMZ!
