Sci-fi fans are having a banner week. In a matter of hours we got news of a Matrix reboot from Warner Brothers, and now The Fly is getting a remake from Fox.
Variety reports that J.D. Dillard is in talks to direct the new version of the sci-fi classic. Dillard gained notoriety for his film Sleight at the Sundance Film Festival last year. He and his writing partner, Alex Theurer have also co-written the upcoming thriller Sweetheart which Dillard directed and is in pre-production.

Before you get too bent out of shape about another remake, remember that our beloved 1986 Cronenberg version of The Fly, was itself a remake. In 1958, The Fly was directed by Kurt Neumann and starred David Hedison, Patricia Owens, Vincent Price, and Herbert Marshall. Both movies are based on the George Langelaan story.
This is still a deal yet to be done, so we’ll keep you posted on the development of the new film.
