Well, well, well, things just seem to get worse for Barry (Grant Gustin) on The Flash. Not only has he been convicted of murder, but Warden Wolfe (Richard Brooks) has figured out that he is The Flash. And now Warden Wolfe wants to sell The Flash on the metahuman black market, courtesy of Amunet Black (Katee Sackhoff). I bet Barry wishes he had run away now. Warden Wolfe shows his, “True Colors,” in this episode of The Flash. When are they going to actually capture Amunet? (P.S. I love Katee Sackhoff)
Warden Wolfe has made deals with Amunet in the past. He provides the metahumans that have been put in jail by the Flash. Amunet sells the meta and Wolfe gets half of the profits. Amunet arrives at Iron Heights to look at the latest acquisitions: Ramsey Deacon aka Killg%re (Dominic Burgess), Becky Sharpe aka Hazard (Sugar Lyn Beard), Mina Chayton aka Black Bison (Chelsea Kurtz), and Sylbert Rundine aka Dwarfstar (Derek Mears). These are four of the twelve metahumans that have been identified by Team Flash. Ralph Dibney (Hartley Sawyer) aka the Elongated Man and the current inhabitant of Clifford DeVoe, Dominic Lanse (Kendrick Sampson) aka Brainstorm are among this group as well. (There are two others, but we haven’t seen them lately).
Speaking of Ralph Dibney, he is visited by an old friend, Earl Cox (Paul McGillion). Earl wants Ralph to run a scam with him, but Ralph says no. He tells Earl that he has changed for the better. And he has friends now and they are good people. Earl says Ralph always lets the good ones down. He tells Ralph to find him when that happens.
Iris (Candice Patton) and Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) visit Barry in jail. Warden Wolfe tells Iris that Barry was in a prison fight and will be in solitary for a week. Cecile reads his mind and hears him say that he is selling Barry and other metahumans to Amunet Black. Iris and Cecile go back to STAR labs to tell everyone about Wolfe’s deal. They have to try to figure out a way to get Barry before he can be sold. Ralph comes in and apologizes for being late. Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) says is okay, but Ralph says it’s not and starts going off about Earl. At the same time, Ralph transforms into Earl. Iris wants Ralph to shape shift in Warden Wolfe to stop the sale before midnight.
Escape from the MetaJail
Dwarfstar is trying to get out of his cell. Black Bison tells him to stop trying. Killg%re says it makes no difference if they are a meta pet or meta prisoner. Barry tells them that Amunet plans to sell them on the black market. They have to work together to get out before that happens. Barry stuffs a napkin down the toilet to clog it. When the plumber arrives to fix it, Barry takes a pair of batteries. He uses the batteries to make a concoction that melts the lock to his cell. He releases the other metas. Becky is scared and doesn’t want to go. Barry reminds her that if she stays, she will be sold and forced to use her powers to hurt others. Becky changes her mind and leaves with the others through the sewage tunnel.
They run into the plumber. Dwarfstar holds the plumber down as the other metas prepare to kill him. Barry talks them out of it and they tie up the plumber instead. They get to the door to the general population of the prison. Barry hurts his hand and Becky patches him up. Killg%re works on getting the door open. While they wait, Barry and Becky talk about doing the right thing. Becky says he doesn’t seem like the type to kill a teacher. Barry insists he didn’t. He tells her that being a meta doesn’t determine the type of person they become.
Sing Me a Song
The Thinker/Dominic and The Mechanic Marlize DeVoe (Kim Engelbrecht) watch to see how Barry handles the situation. Marlize is still uneasy about The Thinker. He has the ability to read her mind, but only hears her singing a song. It’s their song, but it’s making it difficult to hear her thoughts. He reassures Marlize that she doesn’t need to hide from him. He says when the next phase is complete, it will erase her doubts.
Ralph practices shape shifting into Warden Wolfe. He’s having a hard time focusing. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) gives him a dose of tough love and Ralph completes the transformation. He stands up, walks away, and falls. Ralph has no control of his motor skills. He gets it together enough to go to a bar disguised as the warden. He runs into Norvok (Mark Sweatman) and demands to see Amunet. While he is waiting, his ears start to shift back to normal. Ralph pulls it together in time for Norvok to retrieve him.
Ralph/Wolfe tells Amunet to postpone the sale. He says the police were tipped off. Amunet doesn’t believe him at first, but Ralph/Wolfe gets tough with her, convincing her to delay the sale. Ralph loses his focus and transforms back to normal. He runs away before Amunet can shoot at him. Amunet calls the real Warden Wolfe to make sure their deal is still on. The Warden lies to her saying the metas are exactly where they need to be. He hangs up and yells at the guards to find the metahumans.
On to Plan B. Iris wants to break Barry out of jail. Cisco calls for Ralph to get ready, but Ralph says he’s not going. He let them down at Amunet’s and he doesn’t want to let them down again. He leaves STAR Labs.
Caitlin tracks down Ralph in his office. She tries to talk him into going back to STAR Labs, but Ralph doesn’t want to talk to her. She summons Killer Frost who admonishes him for being weak. He says he lets everyone down and they leave. She will do the same. Killer Frost tells him that she has done some terrible things to Team Flash and they are still there for her. They will do the same for him. Ralph says she gives a good pep talk. She says if she ever goes full villain, he has to do the same for her. That triggers an idea for Ralph and he leaves.
Showdown at the Prison
Barry and the other metas get through the door where Warden Wolfe is waiting for them. He shoots a power damping cuff on Barry’s leg and orders the others to go back to their cells. They turn to face the warden and his guards, ready to use their powers. He tells them to turn their vengeance on The Flash and points at Barry. They turn around and stare Barry down. Becky stands between Barry and the metas. Becky turns on her luck and the attack from the other meta backfires on them.
Amunet shows up to take the metas. She starts to throw a smoke bomb at the metas filled with a sleeping gas. The smoke bomb goes off in Amunet’s hand, knocking out the warden and all of his guards. Amunet gets up and runs away. The Thinker appears and absorbs the powers of the metas, killing them, except for Becky. He takes control of Becky’s body, killing Dominic. Becky/Thinker pushes Barry back and then kills the warden.
Cisco and Killer Frost jump through a breach just as Becky disappears. Killer Frost freezes the power cuff off of Barry’s leg. They tell Barry to go with them, but he insists on staying. Barry wants to be legally cleared of the murder charges. He says they all have to decide what kind of person they want to be. Cisco and Killer Frost leave and Barry runs to his cell as the prison is put on lockdown.
Cecile and Iris are at Barry’s appeal hearing. The judge is frustrated with Cecile because she is stalling for something. Just as she is about to give up, Clifford DeVoe comes into the courtroom. (It’s Ralph) Everyone freaks out, questioning if his murder was real. DeVoe says he was stabbed and overheard someone talking about framing Barry Allen for his murder. DeVoe promises to do everything he can to solve the mystery. The judge drops all of the charges against Barry. BARRY IS FREE!
Team Flash celebrates Barry’s release at Joe’s. Barry is uneasy. He says The Thinker got into the prison too easily and nothing stopped him from absorbing the metas’ powers. And he could have gone after any meta in the jail, but he only went after the bus metas. That means that anyone who was on that bus is in danger…including Ralph!
The Thinker, still in Becky’s body, wants to celebrate their accomplishments. Marlize is upset that Barry is out of jail. She is also upset with The Thinker because he took the meta powers. The plan was to wait until all twelve had been found. The Thinker says she didn’t say when that would happen, just that it was part of the plan. The Thinker hears the song in Marlize’s head again. She drugs a glass of champagne and gives it to Marlize. The drug makes Marlize relax. The Thinker starts singing their song. She takes Marlize by the hand and they dance.
Yay! Barry is free! I wonder if the Thinker saw that happening. Does he/she even know about Ralph? I’m sure he/she does, but the Thinker hasn’t said anything about him.
There are two we know of, the Weeper and Fallout. I guess Fallout is in a special place since he’s basically atomic? And there are four more metas that they have to find. They don’t know that Team Flash is doing the work for The Thinker by finding the metas. SMH.
Well, like most television shows, The Flash will take a break while the Olympics is on. So we have to wait until February 27 to find out what happens next. Go Team USA!
