For the past ten years we’ve watched the stars of Avengers cut up on set and basically become the close knit family we see on the big screen. So it’s only fitting that they get matching tattoos, right? The stars wanted to commemorate the release of Avengers: Infinity War.  And it’s also the 10th year of the MCU.  The tattoo is of the superhero’s logo “A” with the number 6 incorporated, for the six original Avengers: Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, The Hulk and Hawkeye. See the video and pictures from Robert Downey Jr‘s Instagram.

New York tattoo artist Joshua Lord did the honors, giving RDJ, Jeremy Renner, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson matching tattoos.  Downey told Entertainment Weekly that the sixth Avenger, Mark Ruffalo opted out.

It was (Scarlett) Johansson’s idea, and she and (Chris) Evans did it in New York. Then, their New York guy, Josh Lord, who is amazing, flew out to LA, he did me, did (Jeremy) Renner, and then we just bullied (Chris) Hemsworth into doing it, and he got it. – RDJ

In exchange, Lord asked each star to tattoo a single line on his leg.

And each one of us drew a line on the artist with his own tattoo gun and it was a total massacre. Each of us contributed to giving the tattoo artist the sixth tattoo that he designed for us. By the way, he’s got another one on him that Scarlett did, which is beautiful, which is crazy, because the line she drew on him, which was just supposed to be a straight line, looked like a lightning bolt. It was a mess. – RDJ

Renner also posted a video and photos on his Instagram as well.

Avengers: Infinity War is in theaters now!
