Grab a slice of pizza and settle in for a night of fun with the first look trailer and posters for the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s film. Jason Blum and Blumhouse Productions picked up the iconic video game horror franchise that took the world by storm for a live-action adaptation starring Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson, among others. There was quite a bit of speculation on what story would be told. Were we getting a true-to-video game experience of a night shift security guard being hunted by terrifying animatronics, or were we getting the much darker and grittier background behind the franchise?

The first look trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s gives us both. It opens with a “welcome on board” video for Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria that is straight out of the 80s. This gives us our first look at the cute yet terrifying cast of animatronics. It then flashes to the present as Josh Hutcherson’s character, Mike Schmidt, seems to be taking on the night shift. And anyone who has ever played a Five Nights at Freddy’s game knows – this isn’t a good idea. The trailer shows off some very Freddy easter eggs, like the black and white security cameras and the different rooms players need to track the crew through.
But we also get little tidbits into what else the Five Nights at Freddy’s adaptation will cover. There is a child hiding in ball pits and others running through the woods. Another adult (Elizabeth Lail) seems to be trapped within the pizzeria, and even a quick glimpse at Matthew Lillard. We are thrilled to see Lillard return to the horror film landscape and get the incredible Mary Stuart Masterson. The film also includes Kat Conner Sterling and Piper Rubio, with the animatronics handled by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
