The live-action Aladdin will grace the covers of Entertainment Weekly along with new photos from the film. Guy Ritchie trades in his guns and fast cars for flying carpets and a genie, played by Will Smith. Aladdin is the latest Disney classic to get a live-action remake.
The cover features Smith decked out as the Genie, Mena Massoud plays Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine. The first photos also feature a look at the evil Jafar (Marwan Kenzari) and the loveable Abu! There are also pictures of the moment that Jasmin first meets Aladdin, Aladdin protecting a couple of children from the dangers in the streets of Agrabah, and a photo of Jasmin’s new friend Dalia (Nasim Pedrad). Dalia was created so Jasmin would have someone to confide in. But don’t worry, Rajah the tiger is definitely in the movie. I wonder if Jafar will have a bird?

I hate to judge before the film is even complete, but Will Smith looks like he’s in cosplay. I’m sure it will look better on screen, but the first look just makes me cringe a little. However, I am excited about Abu! I have to admit, the monkey is my favorite character in the animated film. Let’s hope we can get some good reactions from the live-action version.
Aladdin is set to premiere in theaters on May 24, 2019. Check out the EW cover and photos below!
