American Gods has started filming season three. Starz released the first photo of Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) and Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane). The duo looks as if they’ve been roughing it a bit in the time between season two and three. According to Entertainment Weekly, the next chapter will travel to Lakeside, Wisconsin.
EW also reports the premise of season three will be Shadow trying to break away from Mr. Wednesday and settle down in Lakeside. Shadow learned a big secret about Mr. Wednesday that will forever change their relationship. At the end of season two, Shadow left on a bus alone and assume a new identity. Obviously, Mr. Wednesday finds him so they can resume their quest. But this time, a dark secret awaits Shadow as he is guide by the Orishas, the gods of his black ancestors.
There’s also some American Gods casting news. In addition to Marilyn Manson, Eric Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) will play the Lakeside police chief. And Dominique Jackson (Pose) joins the cast as Ms. World, an incarnation of Mr. World played by Crispin Glover. This doesn’t mean that Glover is leaving the show. In fact, he’s the type of God that likes to adapt to the times and take on new forms.
Other new additions include Blythe Danner (Gwenyth’s Mom) as the goddess Demeter; Herizen Guardiola as the Yoruban goddess of love and fertility, Oshun; and Ashely Reyes will play Cordelia, Mr. Wednesday’s answer to Technical Boy (Bruce Langley).
Emily Browning (Laura Moon), Yetide Badaki (Bilquis), Omid Abtahi (Salim), Peter Stormare (Czernobog), Demore Barns (Mr. Ibis) and Devery Jacobs (Sam Black Crow) are all returning for season three. Charles “Chic” Eglee takes over as showrunner for season three of American Gods.
I’m super excited about Sam Black Crow returning to American Gods. This is an interesting show with the most diverse cast on television. Other shows could learn a thing or two from Starz.
American Gods should return in Summer 2020 on Starz. Check out the photo below.
