Beauty and the Beast

Earlier today images appeared giving us our first look at the upcoming Disney live action Beauty and the Beast.

RELATED: Emma Watson Reveals ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Teaser Poster

In case you need a refresher, here is the teaser trailer released by Disney a few months ago.  As you can see, it gives us nothing to go on.  Nothing but a decaying castle and the family portrait, we don’t even get a good look of Emma Watson as Belle.  It’s quite disappointing, but it does a good job of starting the hype and building anticipation.  Also, the Disney logo is beyond gorgeous as a frozen ice castle.

Ok, so as you can see the teaser gives us nothing.  The photos that surfaced today give us so much more to go on.  Such as, the live action version seems to be staying fairly true to the animation.  The design of live action Lumiere (Ewan McGregor) and Cogworth (Ian McKellen) fits perfectly into the design of the decaying castle.  And I can’t wait to see Gaston in all his pompous glory.

Unsure if this is an authorize or unauthorized leak, it’s taken a bit of time to track the images back to their source.  Thanks to Birth. Movies. Death. it seems like the photos originated from a Facebook post by Jack Morrissey.  These images were then picked up by Twitter user @macondom and compared to stills from the animated feature.  Both Facebook photos and the Twitter comparisons are below.

First on deck, Lumiere and Cogsworth.  I’m not going to lie, I love this design, it’s whimsical and yet slightly unsettling which, to be fair, is a lot like the story of Beauty and the Beast.  Seriously, if you break down the fairytale it raises several uncomfortable questions.

Anyway, see how the two faithful companions compare between the live action and animated versions.

Nothing too earth shattering here, just a behind the scenes shot of Dan Stevens as the more human version of Beast.  Staying fairly true to the animation here.

And last, another behind the scenes shot of what I can only assume is Gaston (Luke Evans) singing his own praises.  Again, staying very true to the animation design.
