Netflix has just released the first photos from the upcoming prequel series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. The series is based on the 1982 high fantasy film The Dark Crystal. Netflix also announced the voices behind the puppet characters and there are some pretty big names on that list.

The Dark Crystal is about a young Gelfling boy named Jen who believes he is the last of his race. He is sent on a quest to heal the Dark Crystal with a missing shard. Along the way he meets Kira, a Gelfling female. Together they face many dangers to restore order to the world. The world features many races, good and bad, including the evil Skeksis and the humble Mystics, whose fates are linked.

The prequel series takes place many years before the film and will have 10 episodes. Here is the official synopsis: “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance returns to the world of Thra with an all new adventure. When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.”

Who’s excited? Me!! I loved the film and continue to watch it as often as possible. It has become a family favorite in my household. I’m sure there are many who can say the same. I am very interested to see how this world became so damaged. I wonder if there will be an race of Fizgigs out there?

The Jim Henson Company with Louis Leterrier, Lisa Henson, Halle Stanford, and Blanca Lista will executive produce. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance premieres on Netflix in 2019.
