Marvel gave us the first official clip of their upcoming film, Captain America: Civil War, and honestly, it’s so good and so perfectly encapsulates what we all want to see in the film that if this was the only thing they ever showed us, it’d be enough to get everyone to the theatre.
What does it do so well?
It gives us Cap (Chris Evans) leading a team, which is exactly his character. He’s a leader, he knows his teams strengths and weaknesses, knows what they can and can’t do, and we see that perfectly encapsulated here. Not only that, but a good leader trusts the people they lead, and we see plenty of that here too.
This is seen perfectly in Cap busting in as the first one, taking inventory of what threats are around them, and then communicating to his team. But, perhaps the most trust, is seen in Cap trusting Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) to telekinetically lift him up to the third floor of the building to take on Crossbones (Frank Grillo).
The other thing that this clip gives us is three perfect character moments. We see Cap selflessly leading the charge and confidently calling the shots. With Falcon (Anthony Mackie), we see him fly into combat with some swagger to him as he counts down the number of combatants they have to face.
Finally, with Wanda, we see just how powerful she is while simultaneously being afraid of that power as she won’t finish a guy off. Instead, she calls out to Sam and he finishes the guy off.
Also, let’s all just acknowledge how bad ass Captain America’s entrance is. He kicks a Jeep. A Jeep. And the way he throws his shield is straight out of the comics!
Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability. Get ready to pick a side and join the nonstop action playing out on two fronts when Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War opens in U.S. theaters on May.
