Liar, liar pants on fire. It isn’t just a cute kid phrase when it’s coming from a girl who can literally set your pants on fire. It’s so unsettling; it’s perfect. And where can you find this moment? In the new trailer for Blumhouse Productions’ adaptation of Stephen King‘s Firestarter, of course. The studio dropped the trailer this morning, along with news that the thriller will be hitting theaters in May and dropping on the Peacock streaming service.

Firestarter follows young Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), a young girl with some intense pyrotechnic abilities. And not just fire shooting out of her hands. The trailer shows us that Charlie can heat up the world around her, causing water to steam and things to combust. Her parents, Andy (Zac Efron) and Vicky (Sydney Lemmon), have been trying to protect Charlie by helping her cope with her abilities while also keeping her away from a shadowy federal agency that wants to use her power for nefarious things.

The trailer heats up (literally and figurately) rather quickly as we get glimpses at a few of the additional characters, including the mysterious operative (Michael Greyeyes), who has been deployed to find Charlie and bring her in. But this girl isn’t about to let them take her so easily. The trailer continues as we see Charlie become more in touch with her powers and vow to protect her family from bad people. This adaptation looks impressive and we can’t wait to dive in. Firestarter also stars Kurtwood Smith, John Beasley and Gloria Reuben.

Firestarter hits theaters and the Peacock streaming service on May 13, 2022. We’ve dropped the trailer down below for your enjoyment. What do you think of this new adaptation from Blumhouse Productions? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
