The Europe Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest in Frankfurt, Germany is all said and done, but we got some new updates on the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Stormblood. So what’s new?
New Class: Samurai
It was previously announced that we would be getting Red Mage as a new class in the expansion, but during the keynote, they announced ANOTHER class: Samurai. This class will be a pure Melee DPS character, whose primary weapon is the Katana. The starting level for the Samurai will be level 50, but the starting quests will be in Gridania, Ul’dah or Limsa Lominsa.
As a melee character, players will be fighting their enemies up close and personal. Samurai’s will master the art of “Sen” and it’s three forces: “ka,” (flower) “setsu” (snow) and “getsu” (moon). Samurais will learn swordplay techniques and they will share equipment with Monks.
New City: Kugane
Located on the island chain of Hingashi, players will be able to travel to Kugane. These are lands with a strict isolationist policy, so players should beware.
New Lands
Stormblood will also expand the Final Fantasy XIV map. Players will travel to the new continent Othard, which is to the far east of our main continent of Eorza. There players can visit the new city-state Kugane, a port city in the island chain of Higashi, as well as explore the new areas Gyr Abania, Ala Mhigo, Doma in the Yanxia region, The Ruby Sea, and the Azim Steppe.
And if the name Doma sounds familiar, it should. Doma Castle was a location in Final Fantasy VI, and that, too, had far eastern themes tied to it, specifically Cyan and “Cyan’s Theme.”
New Dungeons
While they did not give a lot of information as to what the new dungeons will entail, players will be encountering these new dungeons in The Azim Steppe and Yanxia. There should be more information to follow in the upcoming months.
New Beast Tribe and Primal
In addition to the Ananta, we will also be seeing a new beast tribe, the Kojin. These beasts are usually found around the Ruby Sea. They are traders, who often deal with other races and welcome new trading opportunities. They are also collectors of rare treasures that houses deities. From this tribe, we will also get a new primal: Susano, Lord of The Revel.
New Residential District: Shirogane
Along with new lands comes a 4th residential district: Shirogane. If you eager to move into the new residential, you’ll have to wait. Shirogane will not be made available immediately but rather at a later time. This will allow players to focus on the story first and then deal with plots later.
Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood will be released June 20, 2017 for Windows, Mac, and PlayStation 4.
