Pitter patter, let’s get at’er! Thanks to TVLine, we’ve got the first three minutes of the Letterkenny Season Nine premiere! The Hulu comedy is returning later this month with seven brand new episodes.
Letterkenny boasts some of the best cold opens in comedy history, and the show continues that streak with the Season Nine premiere. Daryl (Nathan Dales) and Squirrelly Dan (K. Trevor Wilson) inform Wayne (Jared Keeso) that his ex-girlfriend Angie just returned to Letterkenny from an extended trip. Apparently, she went overseas to the UK and has adopted some of the country’s lingo. The trio proceeds to vocalize stereotypes that are especially prevalent when Americans go abroad. Adopting terminology, catching a bit of an accent, extolling British comedies for being far superior to “regular comedies,” etc. The snappy retorts and the rhythm they have just flows. It’s smooth like butter.
My hat is off to the actors for memorizing fast-paced dialogue that puts Aaron Sorkin to shame. It’s akin to really raunchy Shakespeare. There are running gags aplenty and hidden jokes in just that cold open alone. Letterkenny is one of those shows you re-watch so you can discover new jokes that flew below your radar upon first viewing. It’s brilliant.
You can check out the Letterkenny Season Nine cold open below. Letterkenny stars Jared Keeso, K. Trevor Wilson, Nathan Dales, Michelle Mylett, Dylan Playfair, Andrew Herr, Jacob Tierney, Tyler Johnston and Evan Stern. You can binge all seven new episodes when the show returns Saturday, December 26, only on Hulu.
That’s a Texas-sized 10-4, good buddies.
