Earpers, I’m sure you’ve been resolutely clinging to social media, waiting with baited breath for the announcement that our favorite sh*tshow Wynonna Earp will resume production on Season 4. I know I have. But, in the meantime, we’ll continue to exhibit “polite no chill” as we stand strong for a series that means so much to so many. That’s not to say that strides in this battle haven’t been made, though.

Now, Earpers have taken the fight to Times Square with a series of billboards putting Wynonna Earp and its plight on display. Some bear the famous hashtag #FightForWynonna while others contain photos of our beloved cast. Even showrunner Emily Andras as well as stars Melanie Scrofano and Tim Rozon have utilized billboards to express gratitude toward Earpers for their efforts. So far, we’ve received radio silence in regards to whether Season 4 is a go. However, the efforts of Earpers won’t be deterred, nor will their cries go unheard. This scenario sheds light on fandoms and just how powerful they really are. We’ve seen toxicity within fandom communities before, but thankfully Earpers are a loving and nontoxic bunch. Not to mention, we’ve seen how powerless certain fandoms feel when their shows are cancelled.

Why is it that programs with a notably intense loyal following are prone to the ax? You may think that size matters in this case – for example, look at the fandom for Game of Thrones. I don’t think I know a single person that doesn’t watch it. Now, Wynonna Earp‘s fan base is much smaller in comparison but their loyalty is unmatched, even by Westerosi standards.

Now, repeat after me, Earpers: money, money, money. Funding is crucial for a show’s longevity, especially if it’s of the genre persuasion. But, that doesn’t mean we should sit on our hands and do nothing. We may not have tons of cash at our disposal, but we do have our voices.

Smaller fandoms shouldn’t be deemed unimportant because of their size. Everyone has a voice, and that voice carries weight. We must raise our voices in tandem, become a rallying war cry for Wynonna Earp. Fight as hard as she would. Hold our own Peacemakers at the ready and prepare for battle.

I know I’ve benefited immensely by being part of this gracious community. This fan base loves without inhibitions and never points a finger in judgement. You’d be hard pressed to find another fandom of this caliber. This fandom unites people under one mantra: love is love is love is love. We are here and we stay. We can reach across the aisle despite our differences, despite our different walks of life, because underneath our skin we’re the same. Humans. Honestly, our politicians could learn a thing or two from Earpers.

This is our show, and we won’t go down without a fight. Wynonna Earp is more than a genre TV series, but a unifying symbol of love. We are one, and life is too short to not put some “polite no chill” into practice. Our work isn’t done. So, snag some whiskey and doughnuts, because it’s going to be a long ride. While you’re at it, head over to the Wynonna Earp Fans website to stay up-to-date regarding the latest on Season 4.
