This week at Female Gaze Productions, we look at the half of the introductory season of the classic western The Big Valley. Premiering in 1965, the show focuses on the wealthy Barkley family living on the California frontier.
While most shows are just getting their feet under them, the Barkleys tackle questions which prove far ahead of a number of its contemporaries during the golden age of television. There are discussions of sex and gender relations, as well as sophisticated cultural analysis establishing the show as a definite classic in the making.
