In May of 2016, we get to finally see Chadwick Boseman take the big screen as T’Challa, a.k.a. The Black Panther. It’s unclear where else we might see him pop up, but one thing is for certain — he has his own standalone film in 2018.

In the latest Empire Magazine, Kevin Feige give us a bit more illumination about what we can expect from the character and his film, saying that, “This one is important. Not only do you get an unbelievable lead character, but you also get all of Wakanda, which is a whole new setting and culture to explore.”

But wait, it’s even bigger than that because it’ll be the first film to feature a “primarily Aftrican-American cast.” In a world primarily populated by middle-aged white heroes taking the center stage, this is a very important step in securing a more racially diverse cast.

Feige then went on to describe the film as “a big geo-political action adventure that focuses on the family and royal struggle of T’Challa in Wakanda, and what it means to be a king. T’Challa’s story is very important to us as it links to the next Avengers films, which is why we brought it forward.”

So, somehow, the Black Panther and the nation of Wakanda are linked to Infinity War. Is is possible that they discover that the last Infinity Stone is somewhere in Wakanda? This would obviously get Thanos’s attention. Or possibly it’s Wakanda and their advanced technology that discovers Thanos is coming to earth or planning to destroy the universe.

Black Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman, is slated for release in February of 2018.
