February 2020 Video Games

This February, prepare to fall in love with some new and remastered video games! This month is packed with a cavalcade of exciting titles, from fighters to horror games, point-and-click adventures and more! Here are all the titles we’re looking forward to getting our hands on this month.

Yakuza 5

Set against the backdrop of Japan’s criminal underworld, Yakuza 5 is the fifth title in Sega’s action-adventure video game series. This remaster boasts enhanced graphics resolution and an improved frame rate from its original release on the PlayStation 3 in 2015. Since the release of the first Yakuza game in 2005, this series has been acclaimed (particularly in Japan) for its film-worthy storytelling and character development. Set in the fictional Kamurocho district of Tokyo, the Yakuza series chronicles Kazuma’s rise to and fall from Chairman of the Tojo Clan, his repeated attempts to leave the yakuza life, and the constant struggle for money, power, and honor. This game is packed with engrossing storylines for each of the game’s five main characters, a large variety of minigames, and cities that feel alive and entertaining. Will you be able to lead the Tojo Clan along the ultimate path to victory?

Yakuza 5 will release on February 11, 2020 for the PS4.

LUNA The Shadow Dust

The fully hand-animated point and click adventure, LUNA The Shadow Dust, comes to us from developer Lantern Studio. The player will need to solve puzzles as they progress through an enchanted world outside of normal reality. The game also features dual character control and a style of narration that does not rely on words. Moreover, the art style alone is beautiful and if the music from the trailer is any inclination of what to expect, we are in for an extraordinary journey.

LUNA The Shadow Dust will release on February 13, 2020  for the PC through Steam.

Dreams

The wait for the highly anticipated (and slightly delayed) Dreams video game is almost over! From the minds of Media Molecule comes a game that allows you to create the games of your, well, dreams! Dreams allows users to create art, music, 3D assets, programs, experiences, and even fully-fledged video games! Likewise, this title features a first-person campaign “Art’s Dream,” a browse mode called “Dream Surfing,” a community asset build mode titled “Dream Shaping,” a “Homespace Editor” and “Community Jam,” which consists of themed contests that users can submit to and vote on! Overall, it’s hard to encapsulate all of the creative possibilities that Dreams has to offer. Definitely check it out this Valentine’s Day!

Dreams will be available on Feburary 14, 2020 for the PS4.

The Suicide of Rachel Foster

The indie thriller adventure story The Suicide of Rachel Foster is coming to us from developer One-O-One Games. Ten years before the start of the game, Nicole and her mother discover her father’s dark secrets and leave behind their lives. Eventually, Nicole returns to the family hotel to face very literally the ghosts of her past. This game looks right up my alley, featuring a heavy narrative story and littered with thriller elements. Not to mention the images of the creepy hotel just scream Stephen King to me!

The Suicide of Rachel Foster releases on February 19, 2020 for the PC through Steam, Xbox One, and PS4.

Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition

Devil May Cry 3 is arguably the best game of the original Devil May Cry trilogy. For years, this title has been praised for its narrative and thrilling gameplay. And now, we have a Special Edition version of this beloved game headed to the Nintendo Switch! In Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, in addition to the full game, players will have the opportunity to play as Vergil for the first time! Additionally, players will also have a chance to challenge themselves with ‘Bloody Palace’ survival mode, and more! Whether you’re familiar with the DMC franchise, or just getting into it for the first time, this Special Edition release is a game you do not want to pass on!

Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition will be available on February 20, 2020 for the Nintendo Switch.

World of Horror

The upcoming indie RPG, World of Horror, caught my eye for so many different reasons. First and foremost, it is heavily inspired by H.P. Lovecraft. The second is that the artwork is done in 1-bit and inspired by Japanese horror mangaka Junji Ito. Overall, the roguelike turn-based combat works well alongside the idea of keeping the characters sanity level low while the Old Gods reawaken around them. What more do we want?

World of Horror will enter early access on February 20, 2020 for the PC through Steam.

One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows

The upcoming fighting game, One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows, looks to be a heavy hitter in the genre. Not only is this title based on the highly popular anime, One Punch Man, it also has popular publisher Bandai Namco behind it. Gameplay features 3 vs 3 battles where superheroes go all out. Additionally, one of my favorite aspects of the game is how they are treating the almost unbeatable main character Saitama. If you chose him for your team, he will always arrive late, leaving players to battle in a 2 vs 3 fight for the first part.

One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows will release on February 28, 2020 for the PC on Steam, PS4 and Xbox One.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV

The Romance of the Three Kingdoms series is a collection of turn-based tactical role-playing strategy video games by Yokohama-based developer Koei Tecmo. In these games, you assume control of one of three factions during the 60 year-long Three Kingdoms period and manage the food supply, treasury funds, domestic affairs and population loyalty of its cities. Likewise, Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV is shaping up to be the most sophisticated entry into the entire series, with mechanics and aesthetics reminiscent of Sid Meier’s Civilization series. This title offers innovative gameplay, following an “easy to start, but hard to master” formula. Moreover, if you are interested in experiencing a romantic portrayal of classical Chinese history and literature, then take charge of the fate of China and see if your territorial conquest will triumph.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV will be avaiable on February 28, 2020 for the PC on Steam, and PS4.
