Just as The Walking Dead season nine is ending, Fear the Walking Dead is ready to keep the ‘Dead-verse’ momentum going. The stars, creators and producers of Fear TWD were at Wondercon this weekend to talk about the upcoming season five, announce a surprise cast member, and present the first trailer for the upcoming season.
At the end of season four, Morgan Jones (Lennie James) and the gang decided to stay in Texas and find other survivors so they can build a thriving community together. For season five, they are continuing their mission. But as we know, not everyone wants to be saved.
The first trailer shows a lot of dead burning bodies, that leads me to believe someone is clearing out the dead. Morgan and the other find a group of children. Despite their attempt to help the kids, the kids don’t trust anyone. The group treads on some dangerous territory with walker booby traps and everything, putting the group in a lot of danger. What’s with the airplane?
The big surprise is the return of Daniel Salazar (Rubén Blades). Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) tries to talk Daniel out of shooting him and Daniel replies that Strand talks too much. True. These two are always entertaining.
The group continues on, trying to help people. Kitty cats, accordions, guns and a toast to Jimbo. Morgan says they should have expected it to be hard. Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) just wants to honor her mom. The group is forced to defend themselves time and time again. And then Dwight (Austin Amelio) arrives fresh out of the Savior war in Virginia.
It’s awesome to see Daniel return to Fear TWD. We haven’t seen him since the Tijuana bridge explosion in season three. I wonder where he’s been and what he’s been up to? There is also a mystery woman with a scarf covering her face. I wonder if that is newcomer Grace, played by Karen David. I didn’t see Troy (Daniel Sharman) though…hmmm…I wonder when he’ll turn up. Well, we won’t have to wait long to find out.
“In Fear the Walking Dead season 5, the group’s mission is clear: locate survivors and help make what’s left of the world a slightly better place. With dogged determination, Morgan Jones (James) leads the group with a philosophy rooted in benevolence, community and hope. Each character believes that helping others will allow them to make up for the wrongs of their pasts. But trust won’t be easily earned. Their mission of helping others will be put to the ultimate test when our group finds themselves in unchartered territory, one which will force them to face not just their pasts but also their fears. It is only through facing those fears that the group will discover an entirely new way to live, one that will leave them forever changed.”
Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC on June 2.
