No one is really gone until they’re gone on Fear the Walking Dead. In “Gone,” Morgan (Lennie James) encounters a new ally while looking for a safe place for Mo (Avaya White) and the others. Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) returns to the Fear Family in the season seven finale.

Last week Alycia Debnam-Carey said goodbye to Fear the Walking Dead. Too bad she couldn’t wait a week.

SAFETY

The episode starts off with someone in a hood who is breathing funny. A man’s voice comes over a radio and says they can help this person. But only if they are willing to do what needs to be done. Then they can give this person what they really want.

Morgan sailed away with Baby Mo a couple of episodes ago. They end up in Louisiana. Morgan tied up the raft between two trees so they could sleep safely. Baby Mo wakes up and she’s hungry. Morgan puts some music on for the baby and heads out to find food. He walks on the beach where several walkers are buried in the sand. The walker heads are the only part sticking out of the sand.

Morgan finds a house where he meets Ava (Lyndon Smith). Ava is calling out to someone named Jim on the radio because she just found out she’s pregnant. She tells Morgan that he needs to leave but he says he can’t leave until he finds his family. Ava says that place is not safe for kids.

Later that night, Morgan and Mo are in the raft. He calls for Grace (Karen David), saying Mo needs her. He hears a man call out for help. When he opens the raft cover, someone hits him over the head. A mob of people take Mo away from Morgan and plan to bury him on the beach. They accuse him of stealing their children.

Someone else arrives in the nick of time to save Morgan and Mo. Actually she’s only there for Mo. The savior has a familiar voice. And when she turns around, it’s Madison Clark. Madison says Mo isn’t safe with Morgan and threatens to kill him if he follows her.

758

Madison calls her people, letting them know she has a delivery for them. She takes Mo to a boat house, feeds Mo and logs her as number 758. She hears Ava calling for Jim, saying she can’t raise the baby alone. Madison radios her people again, saying she has another lead.

Madison answers Ava saying she can take Ava and the baby somewhere safe. She sets out to find Ava and Morgan finds Madison. He holds his ax at her head and demands to be taken to his daughter. Madison warns Morgan about the people she works for. He tells her to move anyway. He asks why she’s taking the kids that don’t belong to her.

Madison flashes back to being in a room. She agrees to do what they ask, but wants a guarantee that they will hold up their end of the bargain. The man says the only reason she’s breathing is because of them. He asks for her name, but then say she’s no longer Madison. He will tell her who she is now.

PADRE

When they get to the boat house, Mo is already gone. Morgan finds the log book and notices the word ‘Padre’ on the front. Morgan makes Madison walks and continues to where Mo was taken. A walker approaches, giving Madison a chance to fight back. She runs out of air though.

While they fight, Morgan sees the names Nick (Frank Dillane) and Alicia (Debnam-Carey) tattooed on her wrists and realizes who she is. He says he knows her kids and Madison is happy to hear they are alive. Morgan says he will tell her everything when he gets Mo back.

Madison says the only way he can get Mo back is to trade her for another kid. He asks if Padre would be interested in someone who’s pregnant. He offers to take Madison to Ava. Morgan says he won’t separate a mother and her baby, but Ava needs help. If it also means he will get Mo back, then he will show her where Ava is.

They make several stops because Madison has to breathe in oxygen. Her lungs were damaged in the fire at the stadium. He doesn’t like that Madison is stealing kids but she considers it saving the kids. She wants to know what Morgan knows about Padre. He only tells her that Alicia was looking for Padre.

Madison says Mo is in a good place. In Padre, she can have a life that Morgan can’t give her. Morgan takes offense to her assumption, saying his family has been through a lot. Madison says family is the problem. They arrive at Ava’s house. Madison says they will tell Ava that they can take her someplace where her baby will be taken care of. Morgan asks what happens to Ava after she gives birth. Madison says Ava doesn’t need to know, but Morgan needs to know. Morgan asks how she can do this to people. She says he will get used to it.

Madison flashes back again to the room. She says she did what they asked, but they want more. She looks at her wrists and winces.

THE REAL PADRE

When they find Ava, Madison tries to convince Ava to leave with her. Morgan backs her up saying Padre is safe. Ava leaves to get her things. Morgan asks again what will happen to Ava and Madison say she will be separated from her baby. Padre is trying to raise children without any attachments. Morgan changes his mind, but Madison says he will never see his daughter again.

Ava comes back, ready to leave. The mob of people show up again. Ava takes them out the back door to escape, leading them to a graveyard. They hide in a crypt but Ava falls before they get inside. Madison wants to check on her baby. She pulls out a heart monitor, but can’t hear a heartbeat. Ava is not pregnant.

Ava says she met Madison a year ago. Madison took her daughter, saying it was for the best. She wants to go with Madison, but Madison won’t take her. Morgan asks how he can get his daughter back. Madison says he won’t. Even with the trade it may not have worked.

Morgan puts his ax back in her face, demanding to get Mo back. He tries to use Alicia and Nick as leverage over Madison, but she doesn’t want to see her kids again. He asks why she’s doing this.

There’s another flashback. The Padre people tell her she’s not done. They need her to rescue more.

ALICIA AND NICK

Ava is surprised that Madison has kids. She breaks into a grave and pulls out a gun. She points it at Madison. Morgan tries to talk her down, saying they both want the same thing. Ava calls the mob and says she has something they can use. She tells Morgan to tell the mob where Madison’s kids are.

Morgan says Ava’s plan won’t work because Madison’s kids are dead. Madison doesn’t think Morgan knows her kids. He tells her that Nick got shot and he buried him with Alicia, Luciana (Danay Garcia), and Victor (Colman Domingo). Then he tells her that Alicia got bit and was barely hanging the last time he talked to her. Madison falls to the floor, crying for her children.

Morgan and Ava need to find a way out. Madison asks what her kids were doing when they died. Morgan says Nick was on his way to a better place in life when he got shot. And Alicia was helping people, including him and his daughter, find a safe place to live. He didn’t see her die, so Alicia could still be out there.

Madison says she doesn’t want to see Alicia. She decided that a long time ago. She says she was willing to die in the stadium so they could see what she was fighting for was worth it. They wouldn’t like what she did to find them. And Padre knew it. They made her do things she didn’t want to. So when she got her kids back, she’d say no. If she stopped, Padre would find Nick and Alicia and make them take over. She wishes she knew this before she took Ava’s daughter.

FOR THE CHILDREN

The mob shows up at the crypt. Madison tells Morgan to let them in. He doesn’t want to because he wants Mo back. Madison can help them. The only way to stay alive is to show them that Madison is not with them. Morgan opens the door.

The mob takes Madison to the beach and buried her in the sand. They found her log book and found out when the next transport was coming. They plan to meet the transport and make them tell them where to find the kids. Morgan declines their invitation and tells Ava not to go. Ava is desperate to see her daughter, so she goes with the mob.

As Madison watches the tide come in, she sees a group of walkers emerge from the water. She sees flashes of toys taken away from the children she ‘rescued.’ The walkers get closer, but Morgan arrives in time to stop them from getting to Madison. He says he was in a bad place when he met Nick and Alicia. They saved him, so he owes her. He says she can fight for the people she loves without losing herself. No one is gone until they’re gone.

Madison is having trouble breathing so Morgan leaves to get the oxygen. More walkers emerge from the water and Madison sees that it’s the angry mob that put her there. Morgan fights off the walkers and realizes who they are. He pulls off Ava’s mask and falls, fighting off Ava.

ANOTHER WAY

Madison is able to get her arms free and fight off the other walkers. Morgan kills Ava and is sad that she died because of him. Madison says Ava is dead because of Padre. Something has changed in Madison. She says she’s gone, but he’s not. She will help him find Mo and show Padre that they’re wrong. But he needs to give them another child. There is no other way. Morgan says there is, but it means they can’t fail.

Madison takes Morgan to the Padre collectors. She says he is a collector with something to offer. Morgan tells them there’s a pregnant woman … ‘ehem Sherry (Christine Evangelista) … out on the water. He will tell them more but he has to go with them. They agree and take Morgan. They all get into a boat. Morgan asks Madison where Padre is. She says she doesn’t know. They are blindfolded as we see their boat headed for a larger ship.
