A group of queer and transgender teens arrive at a conversion camp in the peacock film, They/Them

The trailer just dropped for the new Peacock Original horror movie They/Them, and oh boy, is it creepy! Kevin Bacon isn’t fighting for the right to dance anymore. Instead, he is playing a frightening director of a conversion camp, Whistler Camp. This trailer reveals more about the characters and what they must face while at camp.

About They/Them

They/Them is a slasher horror set at an LGBTQIA+ conversion camp. At the beginning of the film, a new group of queer and trans campers arrives for a week-long program. This program intends to “help them find a new sense of freedom.” As the week wears on, the camp’s methods become more and more psychologically unsettling. Eventually, a killer begins picking off the campers, increasing the danger level another notch.

Each character has a unique backstory that led to them attending Whistler Camp. For example, Theo Germaine plays Jordan, a transgender and non-binary individual. They made a deal with their religious parents to “legally emancipate if attending Whistler doesn’t ‘work.” Quei Tann plays Alexandra, “a transgender woman whose parents have threatened to kick her out of the house.”

As the trailer opens, we see Owen Whistler (Kevin Bacon), the camp owner, welcome the group. Immediately, he and the other adults try to sort the campers by “boys” and “girls.” Of course, this poses an obvious problem for non-binary Jordan. As they ask what they are supposed to do, a glimmer appears in Owen’s expression. From there, we move to various scenes that give small insights into the plot. The atmosphere is full of hair-raising terror that builds as the scenes transition from one to another.

They/Them launches on Peacock on August 5 and is a Blumhouse production. John Logan wrote, directed, and executive produced.

Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments! Will this be a breathtaking horror film, or will it be filled with stereotypes and overused tropes? As the tagline says, fear doesn’t discriminate…
