Halloween is just around the corner, and the Geek Girl Authority team is prepping our living rooms for an all-night movie fest. So, if you are still settling on the perfect flick, GGA has you covered with our six favorite Halloween movies that range from the humorous to the horrifying. Let’s dive right in!
Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998)
Scooby and the gang have been on the case for over 50 years, from television to the big screen (and even straight to DVD sometimes). With so much content to choose from, it’s essential to know that not all Scooby-Doo movies are made equally, but Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island is absolutely top-tier. It boasts an impressive voice cast with legends like Mark Hamill and Tara Strong, as well as a killer original song, “Terror Time Again,” that can go toe-to-toe with the Hex Girls. –Lauren Darnell

The Addams Family (1991)
Another classic and far-reaching franchise is The Addams Family. The first time I was ever introduced to this seriously spooky family was through Scooby-Doo, and I was rightly obsessed. The Addams Family movie that came out in 1991 is still my favorite flick in every Halloween film marathon lineup. If family is everything to you, then picking this movie is a snap. –Lauren Darnell
Evil Dead: Army of Darkness (1992)
Evil Dead: Army of Darkness is the third and final film of the original Evil Dead trilogy. Our favorite one–handed hero, Ash (Bruce Campbell), is accidentally transported to the Middle Ages. He soon finds out that deadites also exist in this reality, and he must find the Necronomicon to defeat the Army of Darkness. Armed with his iconic boomstick and chainsaw, Ash obliterates one deadite after another, including a bunch of mini Ashholes. The cool medieval setting and signature slapstick comedy of the Evil Dead franchise make this a fun (but still scary) watch. Hail to the king, baby. –-Cassie Holguin

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
It’s not any surprise that anything that has to do with Resident Evil is top-tier for me. So, the most recent live-action film within the franchise, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, was something I looked forward to. This isn’t the first time a live-action movie has come out, but it is one of the more accurate retellings. The things that were changed helped to elevate and bridge both Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 together. It’s a great horror story for horror fans and a terrific horror story for lovers of the franchise. –Julia Roth

Thirteen Ghosts (2001)
Who doesn’t love all of the spooky ghost stories we hear throughout the season? Now, take those and tie them all together in one scary movie, and you have Thirteen Ghosts. The premise is terrific, the ghosts are terrifying and Matthew Lillard shines. It’s one of those horror movies that need to be on your Halloween watch list. I’ve long argued that the TV series built around telling the stories of each of the 13 spirits is something that would be huge, with fans just wanting a little bit more. Here is to hoping that Netflix finally brings this one to life. –Julia Roth
