OUTLANDER Season 3 Promises Family Drama and Heartache in New Trailer

Sassenachs of Outlander were in for a ride at the end of season 2. With events flying between the past and the present, how did we end up where we are? Well it turns out, season 3 will answer just that. In a brand new trailer for the show, we see the family drama that ensues when Claire returns from the stones.

Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Frank (Tobias Menzies) are in the present raising Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) child, Brianna (Sophie Skelton). They had agreed to raise her together as a family but Claire seems to be distant, her head remaining in the past. She can’t look at her daughter without thinking of Jamie and Frank is just trying to get her to back to the present. But before our eyes, Brianna grows up – from a child to graduating high school and becoming an adult herself. With Brianna all grown up and knowing the truth about her parentage, she promises to find her birth father.

Balfe is heartbreaking in nearly every scene as she portrays a woman torn between two lives. Just an utter gut punch. And Menzies delivers a strong performance of a man who just wants his wife back. The two take up a lot of screen time and the real drama will be between the two of them. It’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster!

Unfortunately there’s not much on the Jamie front. But Claire promises to return and we get a hint that she may finally be successful in going back!

The third season of Outlander picks up right after Claire travels through the stones to return to her life in 1948. Now pregnant with Jamie’s child, she struggles with the fallout of her sudden reappearance and its effect on her marriage to her first husband, Frank. Meanwhile, in the 18th century, Jamie suffers from the aftermath of his doomed last stand at the historic battle of Culloden, as well as the loss of Claire. As the years pass, Jamie and Claire attempt to make a life apart from one another, each haunted by the memory of their lost love. The budding possibility that Claire can return to Jamie in the past breathes new hope into Claire’s heart… as well as new doubt. Separated by continents and centuries, Claire and Jamie must find their way back to each other. As always, adversity, mystery, and adventure await them on the path to reunion. And the question remains: When they find each other, will they be the same people who parted at the standing stones, all those years ago?
