Welcome to this week’s installment of F2P Friday, where we highlight our favorite video games that are Free-2-Play. The video game market can be oversaturated, and sometimes hidden gems can fall through the cracks. This is where we do all the digging for you and bring you a new F2P game every week that we think you will enjoy. So get ready to dive in!
Sono
The Basics
Sono is a 2d exploration game where the player guides through an abstract microcosm to find and collect lost bits of sound fragments. The casual indie game from developer ChillSwitch Games and publisher Dead Thread Games started as an Alt.Ctrl game and utilized a MIDI controller’s jog wheel. They have since ported the game to PC and players can use either their controllers or their keyboards. It became available on the PC through Steam on March 6, 2020.

Sono is short and sweet making it the perfect for those looking for something that won’t drag on for hours. The game simply has you gliding through the world they have created in search of puzzles to solve. The game is never overly hard to understand and the puzzles fit well into the gameplay. While the game guides you from puzzle to puzzle you are also able to explore your surroundings as well to enjoy more of the music and art.
Why You Should Play
At most Sono will last you anywhere from 15 minutes to a half-hour depending on how much you choose to explore making this short and sweet. I suggest spending as much time that way you can enjoy the music that plays. Think of it as its own little chill beats YouTube video with the addition of a video game. The music is just simply beautiful. This goes for art as well which has its own beauty. My favorite part is as you collect other fragments they join you and create such beautiful colored lines that weave in and out.
Even though the game is short, the play style of Sono is just as beautiful as the art. The controls are simple as you guide your small stingray character through the world. Pay attention to the eye as it moves to guide you towards your next puzzle. The puzzles themselves are not overly complicated but do take some thinking to figure out. You are rewarded with a fellow companion to join you on your mission once the puzzle is complete. It is completely worth the playthrough to experience this enchanting world.
