Drive Time Radio
Congratulations, caller, you’re tonight’s lucky contestant. Are you going home with VIP tickets to the Beach-A-Palooza Spring Break Beach Blowout, or are you not going home at all?
The Basics
Let’s get down to the basics of Drive Time Radio. It is a branching narrative game with driving and trivia elements. You start the game in gridlocked traffic, my personal hell, and end up in a literal inescapable hell.
Once the game starts, you will receive a mysterious phone call connecting you to the radio DJ hosts you are listening to through your car’s stereo. The rest of the game is played while answering their gameshow-styled questions with the end goal of making it to Beach-A-Palooza…Probably.

The controls for the game are simple, allowing you to focus on the narrative and lore of the game. The car you are driving is controlled with WASD, which you will use to dodge obstacles the radio show hosts are sending. You’ll have to multitask as you answer questions while driving; remember to keep an eye on the road too.
Why Should I Play?
So why should you play Drive Time Radio? Some gamers will see the indie horror tag and be all in, but there is more to it than grotesque AI or cheap jump scares. In fact, classifying this game as an indie-horror game is a bit of a misnomer as it doesn’t have many of the elements we associate with the genre anymore. I would put this game in more of a mystery/suspense-thriller category.
Fans of series such as Welcome to Night Vale will adore Drive Time Radio. Beyond the hosts communicating through the radio, the game also approaches its use of humor and supernatural elements in the same way.

The balance of gameplay, storytelling, musical scoring and interest are all well-balanced, culminating in a fun, lore-steeped experience. I do wish there was more to the game, as the 20-minute runtime feels like it is up too soon, but at least the game doesn’t overstay its welcome.
