Tomb Raider launched winter of 1996, making the end of this year the game’s 20th anniversary. Yes, for everyone like me that played the very first Tomb Raider on the original PlayStation, it really is 20 years old. Excuse me while I grab a drink. In celebration, Square Enix is planning a few things for the Tomb Raider fan, including an anniversary edition and new DLCs.
First on deck, a new DLC, Blood Ties, where Lara’s uncle contests her ownership of Croft Manor and she must explore her childhood home to find proof she is the rightful heir. Blood Ties features over an hour of single-player story in which you must unravel Croft secrets. The DLC also includes a new survival mode, Nightmare, where you defend Croft Manor against monsters and an evil presence.
PlayStation players finally get Rise of the Tomb Raider in the form of a special 20th anniversary edition which will include Blood Ties, a new Endurance Mode Co-Op, all other DLCs, and VR support. In addition to all that, we may get new retro Lara skins. As much as I think the original design for Lara Croft is antiquated, the thought of running around in her original outfit fills me with glee.
If you pre-order the game you get limited edition packaging an an art book, while supplies last, and maybe only at select retailers, and you know the drill by now.
Blood Ties launches on October 11, 2016 for both Xbox and PC players. If you already have a season pass the content will be free.
Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration comes to PlayStation also on October 11, 2016.
