Entertainment Weekly has brought us an exclusive look at Alexander Skarsgard in The Stand. It may only be two minutes long, but it serves a purpose. Showrunner Benjamin Cavell shared that this is a scene of seduction. Not just physical attraction but emotionally as well. The audience needs to understand why it would be easy for people to follow Skarsgard’s Randall Flagg.

The scene needs a bit of backstory before viewing those who aren’t familiar with Stephen King‘s The Stand. The story takes place during a global pandemic that has killed 99.4 percent of the population. Only a small number of people are naturally immune and have been left behind in the wake. The scene introduces Lloyd Henreid (Nat Wolff), a prisoner who has been forgotten by authorities and a government that no longer exists. When all seems lost for Lloyd Henreid, in walks in a mysterious man. And let me tell you, I will never hear olly olly oxon free the same ever again.
The scene is the perfect introduction to Randall Flagg’s character and how alluring he really can be. It shows how easy it is for people to fall under his sway. But not that these people are inherently evil, but because they feel like there is nowhere else to go. He also serves as a perfect opposite to Mother Abigail (Whoopi Goldberg), who guides a group of good-hearted people in the battle for the soul of America.
The Stand also stars Odessa Young, Heather Graham, Jovan Adepo, James Marsden, Owen Teague, Greg Kinnear, Amber Heard, Katherine McNamara, Henry Zaga, Brad William Henke and Irene Bedard.
