Syfy’s instant cult classic space drama, The Expanse is coming back to your TV screens. A teaser and premiere date for the show’s third season were released on Friday; Deadline reported. In season three, “It’s time to find out who we really are.”
Based on the best-selling book series by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (under the pen name James S. A. Corey), The Expanse takes place 200 years in the future, when Earth is ruled by the United Nations, Mars is colonized by an independent military installation, and the asteroid belt (the belt) in between them is plagued by lack of resources and instability.

Season three picks up after a big cliff-hanger at the end of season two, and with factions from Earth, Mars and the Belt, all battling for control. The teaser focuses on two battles. There’s the outward war, and the battle of self. Mistakes are made. Life is messy. People are flawed. No one is innocent. And, the rising tensions at the start of season three seem to be thrusting characters into choosing sides, and choosing who they want to be.

Hundreds of years in the future, humans have colonized the solar system. The U.N. controls Earth. Mars is an independent military power. The planets rely on the resources of the Asteroid Belt, where air and water are more precious than gold. For decades, tensions have been rising between these three places. Earth, Mars and the Belt are now on the brink of war. And all it will take is a single spark.
