As far as Star Wars characters go, Boba Fett is undoubtedly one of the best Star Wars characters ever created. The bounty hunter was a mysterious figure that first appeared in the cartoon segment of the dreaded Star Wars Holiday Special, basically the only aspect of the whole production that wasn’t complete rubbish. The character would return in Lucas’ Original Trilogy, but with his apparent death, it seemed that Boba Fett became a part of history.

Sure, his origins were explored in the Prequel Trilogy, where we found out that he was a clone child taken in by the bounty hunter Jango Fett, who raised Boba as his son. But, little did we know that in 2021, Boba Fett would make his return to the franchise and in the most spectacular way possible. Namely, after reappearing in the hit show The Mandalorian, Boba Fett, played by Temuera Morrison (who had played Jango Fett in Episode II), will be getting a solo television series that is going to premiere on Disney+ on December 29, 2021, just before the year ends.

In this article, we are going to tell you everything we know about the show, titled The Book of Boba Fett, so far.

So, we know that the show is planned for a December 29, 2021 debut, but what will it be about? The official synopsis, as released by Disney, gives us the following pieces of information:

‘The Book of Boba Fett,’ a thrilling Star Wars adventure teased in a surprise end-credit sequence following the Season 2 finale of “The Mandalorian,” finds legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand navigating the galaxy’s underworld when they return to the sands of Tatooine to stake their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt and his crime syndicate. “The Book of Boba Fett” stars Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen. Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson are the executive producers. Karen Gilchrist and Carrie Beck serve as co-executive producers, with John Bartnicki producing and John Hampian as co-producer.

As you can see from the official media release, The Book of Boba Fett is certainly going to honor the legacy of the character, as set out in both the Original Trilogy and The Mandalorian. You see an obvious connection with the late Jabba the Hutt, the character that “gave” us Boba Fett back in the Original Trilogy, whose criminal empire Boba Fett wants to take over; this is going to be the main premise of the series, as it seems. But, alongside that, the show is certainly going to respect the character’s appearance on The Mandalorian, especially with Ming-Na Wen returning as Boba’s friend and associate, Fennec Shand. The two are going to be the main protagonists (or antiheroes) of the show.

As for the rest of the cast, we know that Jennifer Beals is going to appear as Twi’lek, but not much else is known about the show, with Disney keeping the information a secret for now. Part of the production crew has also been revealed, with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni returning; Favreau and Filoni, especially the latter, have given us some great Star Wars content over the years and we’re hopeful that The Book of Boba Fett continues that tradition. Kathleen Kennedy is also returning to executive produce, alongside Colin Wilson and famed director Robert Rodriguez, who will also be directing some of the episodes. Bryce Dallas Howard, who has directed an episode of The Mandalorian, will also be directing an episode of the show.

We also know that Ludwig Göransson, the Oscar-winning composer, will return to write the score for the show, after having worked on The Mandalorian with Favreau and Filoni.

The filming began in November 2020 in Los Angeles, on the premises where The Mandalorian had been filmed. The cast and the crew thought that they had actually been filming the third season of The Mandalorian for a good two weeks before they actually found out that they had been filming The Book of Boba Fett. Filming was wrapped on June 8, 2021, with the studio being given over to the production team of the Obi-Wan Kenobi solo series.

The Book of Boba Fett will be set within the same timeline as The Mandalorian. We don’t know how many direct connections to the show there will be, but The Book of Boba Fett has been variously described as both a direct spin-off of The Mandalorian as well as “The Mandalorian season 2.5”, suggesting that the shows would, indeed, influence each other in some way. We also know that additional characters from The Mandalorian will make an appearance in The Book of Boba Fett, although their identities, as well as the capacities in which they will appear, are still a mystery.

Disney+ released the first official trailer for The Book of Boba Fett on November 1, 2021. The trailer revealed some of the characters, as well as the basic premise of the show, confirming that it will be focused on Boba Fett taking over Jabba’s criminal empire, with some scenes reminding us of Coppolla’s The Godfather. Now, the task will certainly not be an easy one, as the trailer suggests, with a lot of resistance present, as now everyone wants a piece of Jabba’s giant criminal-empire-shaped cake.

The trailer also revealed a lot of familiar locations, as well as the fact that the show is going to be very similar to The Mandalorian in terms of style and cinematography, which is great if you ask us.

And that is everything we know about The Book of Boba Fett. The show promises to be another great addition to the Star Wars franchise, and a show that will do wonders in expanding the main narrative universe. On top of that, the premiere is not that far away. The show will be available exclusively on Disney+, with the first episode debuting on December 29, 2021.
