The cast of Weird: The Al Yankovic Story gets weirder and weirder (sorry, low-hanging fruit). TVLine reports that Evan Rachel Wood joins Daniel Radcliffe in the “Weird Al” Yankovic biopic as none other than the Queen of Pop, a.k.a. Madonna! Radcliffe plays the titular pop culture comedy icon in the flick.
But that’s not all! As announced on Wednesday, The Roku Channel original film brought a few more names into the fold. Julianne Nicholson portrays Mary Yankovic, Yankovic’s mother, while Toby Huss plays Nick Yankovic, his father. Rainn Wilson signs on as Dr. Demento, whose real name is Barret Eugene “Barry” Hansen. He’s a radio broadcaster and record collector whose tastes span comedy, novelty and “unusual” recordings dating back to the early days of the phonograph.

Penned by Yankovic and Eric Appel with direction from Appel, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story chronicles the prolific career of the Grammy-winning musician and icon. Yankovic holds the distinction of being the biggest-selling comedy recording artist in history. He’s also one of three musicians to have singles in the Top 40 Charts in each of the last four decades, with the other two being Madonna and Michael Jackson.
Wood is most known for her role in HBO’s sweeping sci-fi series Westworld as Dolores Abernathy and Mildred Pierce, Across the Universe, Thirteen and True Blood. Her next project, Phoenix Rising, is a two-part documentary detailing her abuse from Marilyn Manson. It’s slated for release this spring.
Radcliffe looked stellar in his first-look photo, and Wood also rocks it as Madonna. Be sure to check out the first-look image of her below! I’m excited about this project, and those involved crank that excitement up to an 11.
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is currently in production in Los Angeles. While there’s no definite premiere date, the movie will stream on The Roku Channel.
