Oscar Isaac now has an antagonist for Marvel’s Moon Knight! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hawke has inked a deal to portray the lead villain for the Disney Plus series. This project will serve as The Good Lord Bird actor’s entry into the comic book realm.
Ramy actress May Calamawy was announced on Wednesday as a new addition to the cast roster. But, as per Marvel’s usual, the description of her role is being kept under wraps. News of Isaac nabbing the series lead was reported back in October.
Hawke’s exact role, like Calamawy’s, is a superpowered secret. However, Moon Knight’s archenemy is called Bushman. Bushman first appeared in the Moon Knight universe in 1980. He’s notably the oldest nemesis of Marc Spector. Bushman’s abilities include “peak human physical condition,” razor-sharp metal teeth and mastery of various weapons. Like Spector, he’s a mercenary.
Ethan Hawke boasts a prolific acting career that spans over three decades. Hawke seamlessly made the transition from ’90s heartthrob to serious lead. He’s been nominated for four Academy Awards for his exceptional work, including a Best Supporting Actor nod for 2014’s Boyhood. Additionally, he’s the writer for critically acclaimed films Before Sunset and Before Midnight. The fact that, in his 36-year career, he’s managed to go this long without dabbling in the superhero genre is a feat in and of itself.
Personally, I’m ecstatic to see Hawke make the leap into comic book territory. Those who dismiss superhero properties as fluff pieces with no substance have never actually watched one. Hawke is an immensely talented actor and will, without a doubt, make a formidable foe for Isaac’s Moon Knight.
Production for Moon Knight is slated for March in Budapest.
