If you’re among those of us who have been longing for more Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and holding our breath for work to begin on the promised feature film, take heart! It’s official that Miss Fisher & The Crypt of Tears begins filming in Morocco and Melbourne, Australia, in October.

Essie Davis (Game of Thrones) will be back in the most glamorous costumes on screen as private detective The Hon. Phryne Fisher, who will apparently jump from 1920s Melbourne to London and British Palestine.

Although Nathan Page has been in as Detective Inspector Jack Robinson since Every Cloud Productions launched their original crowd funding campaign last year, the filmmakers just announced this week that Miriam Margolyes will appear as Aunt Prudence and Ashleigh Cummings will be back as Dot. An Every Cloud Productions representative declined to comment at this time about the likelihood of other series regulars joining the film’s cast, but hinted that more news is forthcoming.

Private investors and fans contributed more than $AUS1 million to Miss Fisher & The Crypt of Tears through an international crowd funding campaign, which has relaunched on Indiegogo to give more people a chance to be part of the excitement.

Writer Deb Cox promises that “both new fans and old are in for a ride full of twists and turns as Phryne’s Middle Eastern adventures find her hunting for missing treasure, racing the clock on an apocalyptic ancient curse – and still finding time for romantic dalliance – in the sweeping deserts and sumptuous mansions of this exotic big screen production.”

Say the filmmakers: The film opens with… Phryne Fisher rescuing Shirin Abbas, a young Bedouin woman, who has been thrown into jail in British Mandated Palestine, for making trouble at a time of colonial unrest. After a perilous escape from Jerusalem, she rejoins Shirin as a fellow guest in the home of Lord and Lady Lofthouse, for the London “season” and she pledges to help her right a wrong and discover the truth about the Crypt of Tears – an ancient crypt rumoured to lie somewhere beneath the rolling sands of the Negev Desert.

Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears is an Every Cloud Productions feature with principal production investment from Screen Australia in association with Film Victoria. To get in on the Indiegogo campaign, and/or keep up with production news, visit www.missfisherthemovie.com.
