Great news for fans of the beloved science fiction series Farscape. Beginning March 19, The Jim Henson Company–produced series will be available on Amazon Prime. Why now? March 2019 marks the 20th anniversary of the groundbreaking series.
All four Farscape seasons have been digitally remastered. This is fantastic for original fans (or Scapers) who have been proselytizing the wonders of Farscape and trying for two decades to get their friends and loved ones to watch the groundbreaking series. And by the above sentence, I mean me. I’ve been trying for twenty years to get my husband and friends to watch the show. Now they have no choice and that is nothing short of awesome. As any Scaper would be, I am fully confident that he’ll fall in the with Moya and her crew.
Farscape follows astronaut John Crichton who, during an experimental space mission, is hurled across a thousand galaxies to an alien world. In his quest to return to Earth, he finds himself aboard a starship populated by escaping political prisoners from a variety of alien cultures. Crichton must rise to the challenge of surviving in a world he barely understands, keeping one step ahead of the pursuing Peacekeepers, a race of deadly mercenaries who will stop at nothing to capture him.
This is an exciting premise for any show. But creator Rockne S. O’Bannon and The Jim Henson Company went even further than an engaging story idea. They melded live-action, digital effects, stunning make-up and puppets! If your current favorite puppet of all time is Kermit, Miss Piggy, Grover or Gonzo, just wait until you meet Rygel and Pilot. The make-up and prosthetics were equally ahead of their time. The show is beautiful to watch.
“Farscape is one of my most favorite productions, and I am so honored by the ‘Scapers’ who continue to love it and share it with other sci-fi fans. Premiering the series and the beautiful HD remastered mini-series on Prime Video is a great way to celebrate the 20th anniversary with the Farscape community,” said Brian Henson, chairman of The Jim Henson Company and executive producer of Farscape.
I’m so excited! As any listener of my podcasts Booze and Phasers and Geeky Fun Time will tell you, rarely an episode went by where I didn’t share my undying true love of Farscape. Watch it, become a Scaper so you too, can say, “Look upwards and share the wonders I’ve seen.”
