“Exploration always carries risk. I say we risk it.”

Captain Ed Mercer plans to breach uncharted territory. On Thursday, Entertainment Weekly unveiled an exclusive trailer for The Orville: New Horizons, and folks, it appears we’re in for an epic sci-fi treat.

Here’s the synopsis for the highly-anticipated junior season of the Seth MacFarlane-led series per Hulu:

Seth MacFarlane’s epic space adventure series The Orville returns exclusively as a Hulu original series. Set 400 years in the future, The Orville: New Horizons finds the crew of the U.S.S. Orville continuing their mission of exploration, as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.

The Orville moved to Hulu after airing its Season 2 finale on FOX on April 25, 2019. Filming began for Season 3 in October 2019; however, it halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with production delayed until August 2021.

Then, the newly-minted The Orville: New Horizons was slated for a March 2022 debut on Hulu, but the streamer pushed its premiere back a few months. Hulu released the first three minutes of the season opener to satiate viewers’ appetites to make up for the second delay.

Besides MacFarlane as Ed Mercer, the main cast includes Adrianne Palicki as Cmdr. Kelly Grayson, Penny Johnson Jerald as Dr. Claire Finn, Scott Grimes as Lt. Gordon Malloy, Peter Macon as Lt. Cmdr. Bortus, J. Lee as Lt. Cmdr. John LaMarr, Mark Jackson as Isaac, Chad L. Coleman as Klyden, Jessica Szohr as Lt. Talla Keyali and Anne Winters as Ensign Charly Burke.

The trailer also reveals the return of Victor Garber as Admiral Halsey and Ted Danson as Admiral Perry.

Ed Mercer and his crew may not be exploring the final frontier or battling Cylons, but the Force is still with them while navigating dangerous new horizons. That’s the correct science fiction franchise, right?

The Orville: New Horizons crash-lands on Hulu on Thursday, June 2, 2022. Check out the visually stunning trailer and peek at the new photo below!
