Fire and blood will reign over us all soon. Entertainment Weekly unveiled a slew of fiery new photos from HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, and next month can’t come quickly enough. The nine images pull back the curtain on a time when Westeros saw dragons roam the skies and Targaryens at the helm.
Fans can see the main cast in action, including Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Paddy Considine as King Viserys I Targaryen, Steve Toussaint as Prince Corlys Velaryon, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower.
Additionally, the photos showcase Milly Alcock as young Princess Rhaenyra and Emily Carey as young Alicent.

There’s even a picture depicting the Great Council at Harrenhal, with King Jaehaerys Targaryen at the center. Readers of George R.R. Martin‘s Fire & Blood might recall that King Jaehaerys wasn’t present at the council. In said picture, you can glimpse Corlys Velaryon, Princess Rhaenys, future King Viserys and his wife, Aemma Arryn.
If you’re a fan of tourneys, this show will offer that in spades. There’s an image of Prince Daemon sporting ornate dragon-themed armor while brandishing a lance and another photo of him dueling in a tourney. And it wouldn’t be a Targaryen series without a dragon’s egg, as evidenced in a picture of Daemon holding one in a deep cavern.

This prequel might not live up to Game of Thrones‘s frenzied hype, especially in its early days. However, it might succeed where Game of Thrones failed because it has a concrete literary ending from which to adapt. There’s no doubt that, judging by the resplendent costumes, this series will be on the same scale visually as its predecessor (or, technically, successor).
Take a peek at the images below, and prepare to soar on the backs of dragons when House of the Dragon takes HBO by storm on Sunday, August 21, 2022.
