There’s a new princess in town! Actress Elizabeth Debicki has been tapped to portray Princess Diana in The Crown, Vanity Fair reports. The Tenet and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star will play the people’s princess for the royal series’ upcoming fifth and sixth seasons. Debicki had this to say regarding her bejeweled venture into The Crown:
Princess Diana’s spirit, her words, and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honor to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one.
Now, Debicki will be taking the wheel from The Crown‘s latest iteration of Princess Diana, Emma Corrin. Season Four will showcase Diana as she meets Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) for the first time. As for the royal trio, Olivia Colman (Queen Elizabeth II), Tobias Menzies (Prince Philip), and Helena Bonham Carter (Princess Margaret) will be on our screens for one more season.
Seasons Five and Six will boast a new cast of core characters, depicting Queen Elizabeth II and her ilk in their older years. Imelda Staunton, Jonathan Pryce, and Lesley Manville will be portraying Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, and Princess Margaret, respectively. It has not been announced who will play older versions of Prince Charles and Princess Anne for the last two seasons. Additionally, we may get to see young princes Harry and William. However, it’s unlikely we’ll get to see their adult lives unfurl on The Crown.
I think Debicki will fill Diana’s shoes to perfection. Not only is she a statuesque beauty, but she has a regal aura about her that cannot be ignored. I’ve no doubt that she’ll do Diana proud in The Crown.
